Due to taking the August MCAT and studying while working full time too, as well as a ridiculously slow pre-med committee, I was really late on getting my secondaries, etc. in (early Nov. for my recs). I got an interview at Pitt relatively quickly, but that's because they are done interviewing by Dec. 2. I just got an offer from UCSD for an interview in mid-March. I feel like this is really late. Is it because I submitted my stuff late, or does it mean I'm at the bottom of their interviewing pool? I wasn't sure if schools ranked their interviewees prior to interviewing them...just curious. I never even thought I would get an interview there, and you can't beat La Jolla in the middle of march, so I am definitely excited for the opportunity, but I just wanted to see if it's not earlier in the year for a particular reason.

Thanks.

Pitt, here I come! 😍

At least when I was applying, a good number of MSTP and MD/PhD programs were NOT on a rolling admissions schedule. I think your later interviews is more reflective of the holdups you experienced in the application process rather than your CV. That is my gut feeling. However, I have no idea what kind of applicant you are.

Anyways, I just visited La Jolla yesterday...it's a beautiful place. And in March, it will be even more awesome (since it's November, the weather was a bit chilly last night...but it WAS 2 am).

Best of luck. Remember, you only need to get into one solid program and you will be on your way to getting an MD/PhD!

from what i hear, ucsd is only offering six interview dates this year (far less than it did last year--i heard they went into may). though they *are* on rolling admissions, like all schools on rolling, they leave spots for great applicants who will be turning in forms later.

and since you're a bioengineer, you know we've got "one of the best" enginerdy programs in the nation. that said, i would really only come interview if you're seriously considering ucsd. although it can't hurt you to visit, if you're already committed to another place it won't help either.
