Late MCAT??

Hi everyone!

I am signed up for the june 2nd mcat currently but I am not sure if I will be prepared in time to take it. This is my first time taking it, and I really want to apply this cycle. I am considering moving my test date to june 18th. Do you think this date is too late? I am applying mainly to DO schools, have average gpa (about 3.5 with grade replacement) and other stats for DO, am planning to submit my primary app to one throwaway school before receiving my mcat score earlier in june to get verified, and will prewrite secondaries as i wait for my mcat score. So far I have taken no full length exams but have done many practice passages. I feel solid on my content knowledge, but since I havent taken a full length test, I have no idea where I stand. My last chance to reschedule is tomorrow so I am freaking out about what to do! This was all poor planning on my part and I am paying the price for it...just wondering what is the best course of action now. I dont feel confident in getting a 515 (my goal) if i take june 2nd mcat because i havent done any real full lengths or serious practice. Since AACOMAS primaries have already opened, im worried that a june 18 mcat will be too late to be considered, especially because i am otherwise an average applicant. I know its better to wait and get a better score than rush to take an earlier test but I want to know if I will face a major disadvantage taking the june 18 exam. Super frustrated atm--would really appreciate some advice!

Thanks so so much!

No full length or practice? Even a june 18 seems out the window if you haven't gauged your content mastery without passage practice or full lengths.

You will be okish if you have everything completed by September, meaning taking an August mcat.

@radian313 Thanks for the quick reply! I havent done any full lengths but have done many practice passages on their own. I definitely made the mistake of spending too much time on content review so far. I am hesitant about moving the test date to july or august because i start a full time job in mid june and idk how much time i will realistically get to study. I have been studying for mcat full time for the last 2 months but focused only on content review and practice passages. Since im fine with content and have done practice passages. I think i will be ready by june 18 or july 8 mcat if i just do only full lengths and practice for a month? Has this worked for others in the past?

Oh k. I was going by what you wrote. Id drop everything and do all the AAMC question packs and full lengths available. Will you be able to get a 528? I dont know. But a month is a good amount of time gauge where you are at. Again, I will repeat it, if you are not getting the score on your practice tests, delay it.

Id start with taking a full length see where you are at. If your score is below 500, you will have to delay it. It will be next to impossible to raise 15 points + in a month.

I honestly don't recommend applying this cycle. I also took the MCAT in mid July and it definitely hurt me because I was competitive but didn't receive near the interviews I should have because schools didn't have any more interview spots. This was MD btw. I say do it right by applying on the first day.

If OP is applying DO, evening being complete by august/September is fine Assuming OP has competitive stats.

thank you guys! i am definitely postponing the exam now and will focus solely on practice tests and practice questions for the next month or so.

DO is different, being complete my August and September is ok for DO. Heck anecdotally I have a buddy who applied in early December with just slightly above average DO stats and was accepted to 3 places
