The fight is rumored to be in May 2012. I'm definitley keeping a tab on this since this is their last shot at a showdown. For some reason I'm feeling like it's going to happen... Mayweather's undefeated streak is good and all, but he will always be known as the man who was undefeated but who never fought his biggest competition, Pacquiao. He'd get so much more respect and appreciation from fans if he actually fought and LOST... than if he never fought at all.

Anywho, I'm predicting Pacman for the win. Either way though, it's going to be the biggest fight EVER.

I think it's going to happen. Too much potential money would be lost if they didn't. Pacquiao's got the heart (literally) to win the fight. 1000+ punches vs 500 for his opponents. Major cardio and stamina. Too bad he hasn't been able to finish his opponents lately. But still, Pacman is gonna mop the floor with Mayweather. Nuff said 👍
 
I watched an expo on him one night in the ED while on break. Saw him training in the Phillipines, helping out impoverished kids in areas of rampant poverty. Seems like a stand-up guy. I'd root for him.

Yea, didn't he build a hospital in the Phillipines for the poor? He knows he's the modern day hero for Filipinos and definitely gives back to his community.
 
Definitely a Pacman fan over Mayweather. Mayweather just irritates the hell out of me...I really hope this fight happens. It'd be the Ali vs. Frazier" Fight of the Century" of our generation.
 
I'm a big Pacman fan also, the Margarito fight demonstrated the power of Pacman and I think Manny would out punch Mayweather. The 24/7 episodes on HBO would be epic. Hopefully the fight finally happens.
 
Overall, I think Mayweather's just a big puss. Perfect record, but hasn't fought his best opponent yet. It's an accomplishment, but like toytles said, it means nothing if he never agrees to fight the best.
 
Anyone thinking about going into any E-ROADS specialty? I'm heavily considering Anesthesia right now. I know, I know it'll change and I'll keep an open mind, but I could really see myself in this field. As a D.O. I know it'll be harder, but I'll just work that much more for it 😉

This is true, the Margarito/Pacquiao fight was awesome. Pacman was clearly the better man in this fight (especially since he was an underdog by size and strength)... but HUGE, HUUGE props go to Margarito. His eye was puffed up like a balloon in the sixth round, and he went six more rounds after that. Margarito was a warrior that fight even when his team kept telling him to call it quits, and a class-act giving Pacquiao major compliments after the fight.

There was this article about how Pacquiao showed mercy and compassion to Margarito in the final round by just dodging and not throwing any punches. After pummelling Margarito with some combinations in the 10th round, Pacquiao looked at the referee like "wtf are you doing, stop this fight before margarito passes out".

I think in the Mayweather Pacquiao fight... Mayweather is just going to dodge and run the first few rounds. He doesn't care about putting on a show for the fans. And then, because Pacquiao actually cares about his fans and the sport of boxing, Pacman will get more aggressive to put on a good show and maybe make some bad moves because of it, allowing Mayweather to capitalize. We all know Floyd doesn't mind taking cheap shots (victor ortiz/mayweather fight).

Blaah, that was a long post. I'm so pumped about this fight. Pacquiao's the man.

My goal is emergency medicine. I really like what I do now, I just want to be able to do more and have more responsibility

I didn't even have to do CEVO, I just got the training through my company. Been doing it for 3 and a half years now

Not sure why I'm posting this... but I just realized I have a bug bite on my right butt cheek. I think I just got it too... I can't tell if it's an ant or mosquito bite. DANG IT.
 
When did ROAD become E-ROADS? Putting emergency in there is cute, but sort of misses the point of ROAD (being high paying, low hours, *very difficult to get into, and *requiring an intern year). also what the heck is the S?

Haha, the original reference also noted that they all had the preliminary year in common, which is what made that (normally) throwaway year so vital and competitive in some hospitals. Because those hospitals were using the prelim year as feeders for their ROAD programs. I fall on a more traditional stand on this, ER can be the ugly child no one talks about since the lifestyle is pretty nice and the pay isn't that far from the ROAD average. but it is much much much less competitive and doesnt require that first year.

as for the "s".... i lol'ed.
 
I think EM was lumped in there because it can be a "lifestyle" career, eg: work the hours you want, etc.
 
I'm enjoying this year off I had myself a 2 hour Halo 2 marathon this afternoon. But my work week starts tomorrow ( I do enjoy my 3 day weekends though)

Just finished downloading my bootleg copy of MW3. It's not that I'm broke (but I will be, oh I will be), but I have an obsession with getting stuff for free.

Also purchased a Swiss Gear Synergy Laptop backpack for next year. Retail prices ~$70, picked it up off craigslist barely used for $25. Looks fantastic.

Right now, I'm actually trying to find anatomy books to download (Rohen + Thieme) as well as USMLE Step 1 review books 👍

Did I send you the USMLE First Aid Step 1 thing? I can if I didn't.

I'm looking for some USMLE step 1 stuff too. In particular the Kaplan subject based books. First Aid seems like too thorough a review to actually help prep for the classes as well.

If you come across something, could you hook me up with teh goodz? I'll do the same if I find something.

Of coz bro. I got some advice from a current medical student to lookup the "taus method" here on SDN. It's pretty damn hardcore, but the scores people get from it are amazing.

Pacquiao/Marquez fight tomorrow. I think Pacquiao's got this one... he's improved a ton since they last fought, and Marquez has stayed about the same.

After this... Mayweather better be next. He's going to be watching the fight, but will deny doing so.
 
Hey, sorry to change the topic. But do you guys know if we will have time to play video games in med school. I was thinking of picking up an Xbox 360 on Black Friday (rumor is they might be going for as little as $125!) and getting MW3. But I won't wanna waste the money knowing that I'll only have like 6 months to enjoy it lol.

I know a lot of medstudents who party, DJ, or play video games in their "free time". If you'd rather spend your time playing video games, then absolutely you have time to pwn some nubz in medschool. 🙂

I'd imagine MW3 will help with the anatomy practical. :laugh:

I just found out there's a UFC heavyweight championship match on FOX right now! This is so cool. If I can't watch the Paquiao fight, this is second best. Too bad Brock Lesnar is only commentating and not fighting.
 
So I visited my school a couple days ago (haven't been since graduation in May), and started talking with a bunch of old friends. Someone asked me if I had any regrets in life so far, since moving onto medschool this Fall which will be like a new chapter.

I thought it'd be interesting to hear if anyone here has any regrets they don't mind sharing. And also, if there's anything about you (whether something that you've done, or a principle you live by) you're proud of that is unique.

I know... cheesy topic. Just trying to spice this motha' up.
 
No regrets. I've made a lot of poor decisions in my life, but without them I wouldn't be who and where I am today. I would have likely settled a looong time ago for something less. You're going to DMU, right? Are you for sure on your way? I'll hopefully hear back from them this week for an invite (fingers crossed). You and FrkyBigStok can kindle a little bromance or somethin'!

Assuming I don't hear back from TX schools (which at this point, I'm seriously doubting I will), then yes I'll be going to DMU next fall.

Will you be going if you get invited and accepted? We have a Facebook page now. Byaaa!

No bromances for me, man. I stopped doing those a couple years ago... wait, I mean... it was a friend... and, so ya... huh?

I hate the weekends because I come back to work on Monday and have to read 20 threads on Pre-Osteo! :laugh: Hope everyone enjoyed their 3-day weekend.

So tomorrow is November 15th, which is match day for TX schools. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a single interview invite from any of them, which makes me feel like ****. I'm very happy with my DMU acceptance, but I feel like my stats are solid enough for at least TCOM.

I'm trying not to be bitter about it... but that in-state tuition and going to a great TX school would've been really nice! 🙁

Sorry, had to vent... carry on.
