I am planning to take Step 2 CK at the end of September and can't really do it earlier because of back-to-back away rotations. My Step 1 score is a modest 219. If there is no score delay, then I am predicting that my score would be available by mid-October.

Would taking a late September test adversely affect me in terms of the total number of interview invites that I get? I know that 25-30% of the programs that I am considering require Step 2 for interview consideration. I am worried that not being considered in the first round of
interviews at these programs would put me at a disadvantage. Any thoughts from people in a similar situation would be great.

EM as a field is tightening up. With an average step 1 score, I would focus on getting a great step 2 score early on. This will make a difference in how many interviews you get. Not saying it should be that way, but that's the way that it is.

It's too late to change the STEP 1 score, so take STEP 2 as soon as you can, but only after you are ready to improve on your STEP 1 score. I received my STEP 2 score in January last year while at one of my interviews. At that interview I let the PD know who was happy to find out the new info. If you do well and you get the score after you have interviewed places you can always email them to give them an update about your STEP 2 score especially if it is an improvement from STEP 1. Basically take the interviews you can get and then impress those places w/ your STEP 2 score. They will be happy to see you are working hard on improving which I think goes along way as some people blow off STEP 2.
