How can you tell which is the proximal and which is the distal diaphram on a lateral chest xray.

The one that blends into the heart is the left.

Gotta check three things..
1)Blending with the heart shadow as said by Radrules,
2)Check for the fundic air shadow..left...
3)The nearer hemidiaphragm is superior if not pathological ....

This should give you an idea about the nearer diaphragm as well as the side
