if i'm planning on applying to pharm school fall of 08 and entering fall of 09, when is the latest PCAT score pharm schools will take ? and can someone explain to me what pharmcas is? i'm still kinda confused because i only recently decided to switch into the pharmacy field 😛

The latest PCAT score a school will accept is usually January of that application year. However, some schools will not accept January scores and prefer the October PCAT. To find out specifics, go to the school(s) website or email the admissions office.

Yeah every school is different. Best advice is study for the june Pcat that way you still have august, oct, and jan just in case. Pharmcas opens during june and the earlier you finish it the better! it takes pharmcas forever to recieve your transcripts, rec letters, and then they take forever to calculate your grades. So while you wait for them to do that you can start on your supplemental applictions for the pharmacy schools that already have them on their websites. It also takes a few weeks for schools to recieve pharmcas once pharmcas has recieved everything from you. Also with the whole january pcat thing, while schools take it they usually have limited space towards that time ( depending whether the school does rolling admission)so competion may be steeper. make sure the school you even want to apply to is through pharmcas( not all schools are). Hope this info helps

Pharmcas is a general application service that many pharmacy schools use. It allows you to fill out one application and choose how many schools you want it sent to. Some schools do not use Pharmcas and have their own applications. Make sure that you check the schools' websites for their PCAT requirements. If it is your first time taking it, I would allow an extra testing date so that if you don't get the score that you want, you can retake it on time for the school of choice.

The majority of schools take the October PCAT right before matriculation. Those that take the January PCAT will probably have you at the end of the application pile making your prospects difficult unless you have a stellar application.

Given your recent switch to pharmacy, perhaps you shouldn't go all out in trying to get in this year. If you have the credentials and can make the deadlines of those March schools, then try if you like. Otherwise, focus on Fall 2009.
