Latest to take the DAT?

I, much like everyone else wants to hit that submit app button on June 1 🙂 I was planning on taking my DAT at the end of May. Someone told me that they "suggest taking the DAT in july but to submit my app asap. It takes them a month to send it out so as long as I take my dat within a few weeks of submitting it my score should go with it."

Anyone have any comments or suggestions on this? I finished all of Chad's videos and quizzes already. I just have to do PAT and reinforce everything with destroyer and possibly bootcamp. Thanks in advance!

I have heard mixed opinions about what is considered submitting early, but you should be fine with taking the DAT at the end of May. It will take about 2-3 weeks for your DAT scores to be sent over to AADSAS, so that would be some time in June. Whether you submit your application as soon as it opens (without your DAT having been sent over), or submit after AADSAS receives your scores in June, everything should be ready to be mailed out some time in July. These are just my thoughts and others are welcome to chime in.

You should apply as early as you can, because it'll take a few weeks to get your application approved. You want everything submitted except your DAT scores, and once you take the DAT, your score will be uploaded in about 2-3 weeks and your application will be sent out to all the dental schools. May is fine to take the DAT, the majority of students take it in August, so as long as you're before that you're OK. Don't rush to take it if you're not ready, it's better to take it a little later and score well than to take it early and risk a lower score.

The best advice I can give any student is not to rush to take the DAT, taking the DAT before fully prepared often results in a retake. If you are fully prepared the end of May then take the DAT. Students have the misconception if they don't apply and take the DAT by June 1st they won't get in. I work with hundreds of students each summer who do not take their DAT until mid August and get in that cycle.
