Laws/Limits on DOs in Tonga?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I imagine you'd have just as much trouble finding laws/limits on US MDs, and you surely won't find it here in premed land. Tonga? Random?

Generally, the countries that aren't listed on the Wikipedia page as having a known status haven't been tried yet. The list only has 30 countries on it, out of 200 countries.

All those countries that show practice rights? Those rights were established because a DO went there and fought through the red tape for rights. Same with US MDs, really. (Nicaragua doesn't care if you went to Harvard, you're an FMG.)

If you're thinking of moving to Tonga and working as a physician, I'd suggest finding any doctor (of any kind) who works there who is willing to talk to you. It's socialized med there, so I would expect they'd be open to chatting (vs. protecting their territory).

If you're thinking of doing aid work in Tonga, then that's a different story. Typically the aid organization gets blanket permission from the government to operate, and you don't have to get licensed if it's not long term. This is going to vary by aid org, country and project.

Best of luck to you.
