I got into an interesting conversation last night with a friend and was wondering what everyone else thinks.Do you think that a good plastic surgeon will make more money than a personal injury lawyer? My friend is thinking of applying to law school. He is a paralegal at a big firm that does alot of the car crash/whiplash type cases basically what I would call blatant ambulance chasing  I say that a good plastic surgeon doing boob jobs or whatnot could easily outearn a lawyer but he thinks that some of these personal injury lawyers who with way less effort and years spent in training are soaking up some major dollars suing peoples insurance companies.I would think a board certified plastic surgeon could make seven figures fairly easy but am not sure? Thoughts anyone (I would love for my friend to be wrong)

I personally think plastic surgery would be more satisfying as a career as oppose to the "blatant ambulance chasing". Let's not forget that plastic surgery isn't all about "enhancement" procedures (boob jobs, face lifts etc.) but serves to correct trauma/severe disfigurement cases. You have immense potential to raise the self esteem of patients and completely change their lives 👍 ...such as the story I just posted (Fleur-Ange) and the recent case of that face transplantation in France. At least, that's my point of view.

Is there a decent amount of swelling on her face?...will it go down?...can anything be done to correct her mouth and make it more symmetric?

interesting story.....i dont know why they would think it was unethical...i mean the woman had her face bit off by a dog...give her a break.

plastics seems cool, if only it wasnt so hard to get into

The woman ad her face eaten off while she was passed out on painkillers and sleeping medications. Suicide victims are poor transplant candidates, because they are unstable and eventually non-compliant.
"She said she had been unconscious when the dog bit her, and realized how badly she was injured only when she tried to smoke a cigarette and could not hold it between her lips."

Also, she smokes, choking the microvessels and impairing her healing and immune function. http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Cosmetic/story?id=1584396&page=1

this "first" face transpant is from the same genious surgical team in Lyon, France who did the first hand transplant. Theyre all about being first, period.
Their hand translant is also on a winner. He was a prisoner, who was given a repreive to participate in the procedure. He then charged the doctors to see him for followup care, eventually quit his medication, charged reporters for interviews and photos(like a REAL sideshow) then the hand died, and it was amputated. Thats great.

Patient selection is very important. Especially for controversial procedures, where one failure affects the publics perception and the availability of the experimental procedure for other motivated and desperate patients.
This patient has been in regular contact with the group in Cleveland who for months have had IRB approval to proceed with a human face transplant.
