Lazy pharmacists!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Why does the pharmacist allow the techs to mess around on facebook? I dont mean to sound presumptuous about your friend, but it seems like (s)he is lacking some good management skills. It is her job to keep them busy and make sure they are on task. It is not a techs duty to be messing around on facebook or texting, that isnt what they get paid to do. Everywhere I have worked there is ALWAYS something to do.

The pharmacists don't really supervise the technicians at this workplace. And it's not like there is one pharmacist in charge running the whole show. There are usually 4 or 5 pharmacists and at least that many techs. They work in parallel most of the time.

I still think it is the responsibility of the pharmacist there to take charge and make sure that the techs have direction. When the managing pharmacist at my store has the day off it doesnt mean that I get to slack off or that the staff pharmacist isnt in charge when she works. And working in parallel works well, but the pharmacist has to set the techs up to keep them busy even if that means that (s)he drops back to take care of some other duties.

It just doesn't work that way. The pharmacists do not supervise the techs and have no mechanism to do so. There is one supervisor over each operation (outpatient and inpatient) who is in charge of overall workflow. The pharmacists do not dictate or set technician workflow, period. The traditional set up you are describing (retail store) is pretty much inapplicable to this particular operation.

Phones have made it a nightmare to keep "unfocused" people on task. It is easy enough to say "no <whatever> in the workplace" but mach harder to actually keep people from doing it. I am sure there is always something to do, but some people are better than others at staying on task.

That said I have been known to check in on fb or sdn when it is slow at work. 😳 Especially on the weekends when we are just not that busy.

Haha, all the stores I worked at, no scripts to fill = chill, go on Facebook, text.
