Ok, so something was posted anonymously here regarding a program in trouble:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=9288170#post9288170

(For those that don't want to click, basically a current resident who was told his program will likely go on probation).

I do not want to stir up a raucous, and I apologize for making a thread in the main forum, but the ROL submission is due very soon. I just want to know if anyone knows of programs specifically to which the above situation may apply. The only one on my list that has an interim chair would be Louisville, but I was really impressed by their program and would love to go there (in other words, I do not know if the above would apply)...

I was hoping to ideally get residents from such programs to chime in and give their thoughts, but we probably do not have enough time to get that kind of feedback. Anyone have any thoughts?

PS: Ah, I see now that Arch has already commented in the referenced thread. Appreciate your thoughts; again, apologies for extending the discussion to the main forum.

My general take: med students generally go about residency selection backwards. They are looking to find the best programs. What you need to do is try to weed out the bad ones and be VERY risk averse in taking chances. A good, solid program will train you well and set you up for a fine career. A program that looks good but has a potential red flag (e.g XYZ has an interim chair, but I was really impressed and would love to go there ) should go way down your list.

The problem is that all I know about a program is that there is an interim chair. The residents all say it doesn't affect them day-to-day. The anonymous poster makes a great point that hospital politics can always ruin a situation.
