Having a bit of trouble narrowing down meaningful leadership positions. I know it’s good to be club officers/elected positions, but outside of that, I’m unsure. There is a nonprofit organization in my area where you coach elementary age kids in running for 10 weeks (both fall and spring) and complete a 5K at the end. The organization is dedicated to helping teach kids confidence, skills, etc. through this program of running. But my position would be as an assistant coach. Would this count as a good leadership position or not really? I know tutoring and TA doesn’t usually?

If you're also in charge of other people your age, that would be good. Club leadership is essentially the lowest tier since it's pretty easy and meaningless. Get some experience in outside organizations/local govt/etc

I don’t think I’m in charge of people my age, but I’d be an assistant coach for the younger kids. Does that make it less valuable experience? Thanks for the input!

It sounds like a great exp!! But I don't think it's really leadership, it sounds more like mentor ship

Leadership they like to see tends to be around peers. Perhaps phrase it so you helped other coaches come up with drills/helped them organize. If you want, send me what you have written to describe it and I can let you know how it sounds. I agree with @Lampy that this is a great experience.

Mentoring and coaching are forms of teaching, and are also experiences valued by adcomms.

I agree it's a great experience but I don't think it's some form of leadership
