Step II Learning about instruments, technology bf 3rd?

Hi,

Are there any good books that can prepare me for 3rd? I basically want a book that will introduce me to various instruments, standard care procedures,.. Just so I have an idea of what they are before I start my rotations. I've never really worked in a hospital and everytime I go I get lost with the lingo.

First Aid for the Wards is a pretty good book to prepare before starting 3rd year.
I started med school right after undergrad, and never worked in a hospital prior to clerkships (except for hospital volunteering, which doesn't really count). Most of the things that medical students are expected to know can be picked up during the rotation and by reading recommended texts/review books (lots of posts in the Clinical Rotations section of SDN).

In terms of procedures, I think there is a book for that but i don't remember the title. My med school also gave us a handout with some clinical skills/procedures:

I highly recommend Step Up to Medicine by Agabegi. I'm just now looking at it for my Medicine rotation, but I really wish I had looked at it before third year. It has an appendix with all sorts of useful tidbits like types of lines, nutrition, Xray, ECG pearls, common ward problems, etc. that I wish I had known about before starting. If you can manage to read the whole thing before starting, you'll be in really good shape. 🙂
