I thought I'd ask this question about the pharmacy schools in Canada

Right now Im in a very tight situation for science as I totally ****ed up my first semester

Gen Chem F
Biology 101 F
Calc I F
Physics D+

But now that I'm in the 2nd semester but on a academic probation and learning from my own mistakes....I can finally say I feel a lot more confident about the 2nd semester as I just recieved 100% on one of the five quizzes that compose 50% of our final biology lecture portion and so on but my 2nd semester compose of the following

Biology 102
English 104
Pscy 101
Physics (retaking)

If I end up with a very good GPA in the end of the semester do you guys still think there's hope for me by retaking those classes from 1st semester next year and maintain a good GPA until I start applying. I also have extremely good references and extra circular activites that cant boost my chances but right now I'm very unsure if I should just accept I killed my chances and switch to the business area of stuy

I can't speak for the Canadian schools 🙁 Was there something major that happened your first semester? Is there any way to get a retroactive withdrawal? I don't think you're completely screwed, but you need to stay in the A/B range from here on out. All the pharm schools I've applied to or have looked at don't do grade replacement; they usually average the 2 grades for the same class. That said, if you earned an A the second time around in a class with an F, you'd average a C at best. If you have the time/money to retake these classes, it wouldn't hurt since you're very early on in school. I'm not sure about your schools, but with my school you needed to get at least a C in any intro courses that were pre-reqs for upper level courses. So...I'm not sure how you're able to take Bio 102 if you failed Bio 101.. In any case, I don't think you're frakked if you have a valid reason for whatever was going on at the time, but you really need to bring your A game! Hope this helps 🙂

I probably don't have as much experience as the veterans on the board but I hope this helps. I think you should be okay as long as you work hard to receive mostly A/B's from now on. Even for schools that do not honor grade forgiveness, it is still an upward trend. Clearly, if you received an A the second time, you learned from your mistakes and now know the information. Make sure the rest of your application is strong and I think you'll have a great shot. Good luck!
