Hey guys, my question is, what's the best way to learn implant placement and restoration?
I just graduated from dental school and want to increase my knowledge in the field, but I'm a bit stuck
on this issue due to the following.
So, it's a pretty well known fact that there are very few cases where you can actually just show up and place an implant. There is usually a need for grafting prior to placement and such.. This would require a larger deal of training.
The problem is, I don't want to go into Perio just to place implants and not restore them, and I don't want to go into OMFS because you don't restore them.
So, what'd be the best way for me to learn how to place implants, different types of grafting procedures, along with implant restoration [esthetics], to the point of being able to do complex cases?
From what I've researched, there are actually very few implant residency programs, and I can only find a very limited amount of info regarding them. Another option would be a general practice residency, but I've also heard it's pretty much a hit/miss regarding which one you go to. Lastly, there are those short-term courses where you go and place implants somewhere, but something about them rubs me a bit wrong - do they teach you grafting and all? I think I want to be somewhere where I'm actually training day-in and day-out, learning about the complications that can occur and how to fix them and such..
Any recommendations/inputs would be great, please.. thank you guys!
