Histology and Embryo are both pretty worthless in the scheme of things.

Pharmacology, no need to learn use, dosing, and side-effect details on this during didactic instruction. Just learn mechanisms.

We have anatomy, embryo and histo in one course, but I went with embryo. That stuff is awful. And to top it off, we got a random embryo lecture in biochem! Why God, why?

We also had anatomy, histo and embryo in one course. I hated it first year. There was absolutely no clinical correlation (unlike path, which has histopath as well).

Please tell me it gets better! We have anatomy/embryo combined - I mean - babies should be cute and snuggly sweet, please don't make me look at any more pictures of deformed babies missing stuff! I cringe looking at the class notes.

we had the worst embryo professor. i was convinced the somites just descended from outer space because he never explained where they came from.

rofl! embryo babies, cute and snuggly sweet. Thats hilarious

the class on "how to be a good doctor"

The normal embryos are pretty nasty looking, too. Our head starts out looking like a worm with a big hole in the center. :scared: Embryo has officially made me scared to have children, but I actually liked the class.

My least favorite class so far has been biochem. Learning endless tedious details about membranes and phosphatidylinositol (still don't know why I care about this cr@p) did it in for me.

I need to start embryo too...

What has been your least favorite basic science class so far in med school?

does your school not teach pharm or something? i hate pharm. no matter how hard i study, i'm still below average.

actually anatomy sucked also, but at least there were pretty pictures to look at.

How about... "Second year."

Eh?

Bleh!

Binge, purge. Binge, purge. Binge, purge. Currently binging again. For Friday's vomitfest.

I chose embryo because self-study will be cutting into my vacation time. Should've gotten this out of the way earlier.

Embryo was a b*tch. Glad that's over with!

Biochem is so much fun! Microbio on the otherhand... But my decision is almost completely biased by the professors. nonetheless, go biochem.

I really didn't like Embryo very much. All those drawings of little aliens got on my nerves after a while - and, of course, the only photographs of real human infants that you ever get to see are babies with terrible deformities (or "deformations" or whatever the correct term is). Embryo is great practice for being able to visualize an abstract concept in 3 dimensions, though!

Embryo was not my #1 pick for least favorite class, however, since it was only 2 hours of lecture per week. I really didn't like Gross Anatomy much. I know that understanding the structure of the human body is very important, but I prefer patients with the upholstery still on - I'm no surgeon. I must be an Internal Med doc, because I really liked biochem - events at the cellular level fascinate me.

Or maybe I'm just a dork.

Embryology is the most annoying but histology is the most useless. NOT GOING TO BE A PATHOLOGIST. KTHXBYE.

Nutrition. Hands down.

Yes, that is an actual full 5-week class, for the 99.9% of you out there who probably don't believe that a med school would make everybody take it.

(And it's also the class that the most people fail each year, even though conceptually it's easier than classes from way back in high school.)

Anatomy was miserable. If I had to dissect another cadaver or quit medical school, I would quit. Nothing is worth repeating that experience. I know I learned a great deal and that it wasn't so horrible for other students, but I never got over cutting on another human being. I am so glad I'm a third year.:luck:

biochem sucks the big one. if we had more than 2 weeks of embryo i might have chosen that, but we're lucky enough to condense it down and get it out of the way early

future surgeon? 😉

no one else for neuro?

I absolutely HATED anatomy with a mother freakin passion!!!!!!!!! But I liked dissecting (I wanna do surgery). And to make anatomy worse, our histo and embryo (which I didn't mind so much) were combined with anatomy

i wish the lab exams were CBTs. the thought of trying to figure out first what a shriveled up piece of flesh is, and then what artery it's supplied by, pisses me off.

Histology I really enjoyed.

Embryology was fascinating (cept for the afore-mentioned pictures).

Physiology was great (esp now in the clinics, you know how important all those miniscule details were)... but excepting cardiovascular physiology - I still find that a bit tricky.

Pharmacology was awesome.

Anatomy? Subtract the impossible gunners in my group, move the whole dissection table to the outdoors on a sunny afternoon with a radio blasting in the background somewhere and actual NICE humane people... then MAYBE.

Oh anatomy, how I did kick thy bottom... Three cheers for third/fourth year!

definately histology. terrible.

Mmm. Gross lab was the main thing I looked forward to after an awful long day of staring at epithelia and wondering if the slide was a gall bladder or a jejunum. . . or worse, memorizing Which Wnt Went Where! Thank heaven for things big enough to see with a scalpel and a Netter's!

Embryo sucks...the developing embryo is like folding origami. And seriously some of the relationships are so whack. Some of the structures you would never imagine going together develop together, like the heart and the GI system, wtf? What was God/natural selection/<insert your creator of choice here> thinking?

Damn cozmosis, your avatar brings back so many memories of the good 'ol days of first and second grade....how many hours did i spend playing that game when i was little....that damn underwater level....I could never get through without sacrificing a character.
