Least Favorite Programs

Anyone want to share their thoughts on programs you may not be ranking or are ranking last?

I'm ranking Oklahoma last. Honestly I liked it a lot, and if I match there I'll be delighted, but it just seemed like their training was a little more limited than at other places I interviewed. Also they are losing their strongest faculty member and the rumor is they promised one of their spots to the wife of a dermatologist who is coming on faculty. I know programs get desperate for academic dermatologists, but that is ethically sketchy to me. Anyone else able to confirm or deny this rumor?

I am probably going to put UIC last. Chicago is too cold for how expensive it is, but this is a secondary reason. I did not get a good vibe at UIC. Their interviewing style was off-putting. They used some kind of score card for your responses, did not provide any feedback - verbal or non-verbal- to your responses, and had trained their resident interviewers to give the stone grill and do awkward interviews as well. I felt the breadth of exposure to all areas of derm was lacking and there seemed to be quite of bit of flux in the program.

But, one woman's trash is another woman's treasure right?

Is it Sontheimer who is leaving? No matter what Cornelison thinks, Sontheimer is the strongest faculty there.

If so, where is he going?

I'm skeptical about programs that only have one spot per year. I think those programs are weak. I think it would suck being the only resident in that year. The whole program having only 3 residents total! That's gotta be a drag.

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Which programs have only 1 resident per year?

I know there are some programs who may get only 1 for a particular year but the other year levels have at least 2 residents (say for example when the program only has funding for 5 total residents).

why would you rank categoricals low?? I kind of like the idea of not having to move after intern year and knowing some people at the place I will be for 3 more years before I start derm.... is it one of those "I can find a better intern year somewhere else" things?
