Least worst option after failing anatomy...

Da best thing to do is to take it over again in da summer. Once you start your spring semester you'll wanna jump full force into what it takes to pass your classes while keeping your sanity (read: don't get caught in that viscious cycle again). It'll suck to take it in the summer because you may have wanted that time to do other things but what's done is done and there is no other way out of it. Accept your position as it stands and take it from there.

I think re-mediating over the summer would be the best option I can see. Don't worry about the long term implications - like you said it is just one class. You can still get cards or CT surg if that is what you want when it comes to then. Residencies are told about events like this, but it's not the end of the world.

Focus on getting yourself straightened out and getting a handle on life. Med school is tough for everyone and it sounds like you have lots of contributing factors so don't get too down in the dumps. You can definitely bounce back and do just about anything you want in medicine (probably not derm, but who wants to do that anyways???) Goodluck and keep the chin up.

Comprehensive (if you can swing it) >> summer remediation (no chill/research time)> decel (loss of one year earnings + increase one year student loan interest).

Really, they are all okay choices. The one you really want to avoid is repeating a year. That's a big red flag.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it. It's definitely b/t comprehensive and summer redo, i also get to meet with that "special committee", early Jan to see what they think. I think a summer redo will be best, this way I get to have less stressful spring, albeit a lost summer.

Dr. Bowtie what da f***?😕?

I know some schools do not offer remediation exams.

There are tons of summer options. Including an online course through drexel so you don't have to move.

I think the AAMC has a list of medical remediation courses.

If you are struggling in all your first year classes, I would consider re mediating the year to have a solid foundation for second you. Second year tends to kill those who marginally pass year one.

i definitely agree...
maybe you can ask to take the comprehensive over the summer? for example, after school ends you take 2-3 weeks to study intensely for the anatomy exam, take exam and then you still have at least 1 month if not more to do whatever else you want over the summer. also, you can focus on your spring classes without worrying about finding time to restudy anatomy.
