I know that LECOM does well to train general dentists but does anyone know the rate is specialization from LECOM? I’ve been looking online and cant find much about their program

I've heard that LECOM is one of those schools that tells students "if you want to specialize, you're at the wrong school"....could be totally false but yea take that with a grain of salt lol

^ yep. They do not develop specialists, only GD

When I was there for an interview, Shannon kept reinstating that we should attend LECOM because we want to be general dentists. However the students that were giving us tours said that because LECOM is a newer school and they're still to establish themselves as a reputable school that the professors will bend over backwards to help you get into specialities so idk

I've been for a tour there and asked that question to a few different people. The dean and Shannon all say that their mission is to produce competent general dentists, and a few graduates have told me they didn't feel the need to do a GPR/AEGD and went straight into practicing. BUT, the students were all super positive about specializing and it is true that the school will help you find what you want to do. One student told me he has not known anyone at lecom who wanted to specialize and wasn't able to. The Dean man also told us that there are two spots somewhere up North, can't remember where, for ortho residencies just for Lecom students guaranteed every year (Might want to double check to make sure that's still true). So, it's definitely possible!

One of the last things Shannon said on interview day was "Everyone is here because they want to be a general dentist right? We can promise you that, anything after is on you"

I think that sums it up.
