I have heard that for LECOM multiple times.
I haven't gone through the process so I am not sure how it works. I am assuming if you are a great candidate for their school, at the end of the interview you meet up with a D.O., have a conversation, and basically they give you a letter. I am only speculating haha
IIRC, LECOM-Bradenton mentioned it during their Open House last year that they could set you up with a DO for an LOR, since they do not ask for them until you interview.
Do you know what they have to do to get the letter? Shadow for few hours? Conversation?
lol....so basically LECOM takes care of the requirement they ask of u...I don't have my notes readily available, but I believe it was a conversation/informal interview.
How do you even get an interview without the DO LOR? Can someone with firsthand knowledge please post.
Because you EC's are good and you have great numbers.
SAME, it seems like it happens to more than a few people so thats why some of them confirm it on this forum.Did this happen to you? I'm just curious how it goes down.....seems awkward.
No, it didn't happen to me. I was just speculating. I mean what else could be the bases of getting an interview invite besides Ec's and metrics.Did this happen to you? I'm just curious how it goes down.....seems awkward.
It really makes no sense for them to actually have a letter written for you. They can let you in without a degree, a 2.0 GPA or a 12 MCAT.....they can certainly let you in without a letter. Why in the world would they waste a faculty members time writing a letter when they are already going to offer you a spot?
For someone this has happened to please let us know how it goes down.....Thanks

Read the title of the post........it says that the schools provide the letters for you.How is it awkward?
I interviewed at LECOM-B and didn't have any of my LORs turned in. I sent them AFTER my interview.
The thing is, they won't make a decision on your application until everything is complete. So if your LORs aren't in by the time the committee meets then they won't make a decision.

It's not awkward if they give you an interview or even an acceptance without LOR's.....its awkward if they tell you that they have some doc, that you have never laid eyes on before, that will write you a letter.
...................... "Oh, well don't worry about that you don't need a DO letter. Dr. Smith, DO will write you a letter......tell him a little about yourself."
yea this is about how VCOM and LECOM says they will provide the DO LOR.....while the other LOR from science prof and etc etc u provide.......
I know what this thread is about and I don't think it's awkward at all. Maybe awkward isn't the right word. It is a bit unusual. I saw a couple of students getting DO LORs when I was leaving towards the end. If someone has the clinical exposure and they can prove they understand the osteopathic philosophy then who cares if they provide you with the letter?
BTW, schools are required to follow certain guidelines through the admissions process otherwise they would lose accreditation.
Honestly, most DO LORs are generic anyway. I had to travel a few hours to get mine because all the DOs in the area were preceptors for a local school. They wouldn't let me shadow them.
If you think that's weird then try this...
I have a friend who interviewed at one of the schools mentioned in this thread. When the interview day was over he spoke to someone in the admission office about how he really wanted to attend their institution. They pulled up his file and mentioned a few concerns. He was able to write a statement around those concerns and put it in his file so it could be presented to the committee.
edit: You might be a little shocked when you learn how the Dean's letter is written at some schools.
I apologize......(I'll use your word now) I would feel incredibly unusual (not awkward) if I sat in a room while someone I have never seen before wrote me a letter vouching for my ability to be a good medical student.
You'd be a little shocked if you knew how loose those "certain guidelines" are. They can pretty much admit whoever they want.
Ummm. I Don't think so. The Feretti's would never allow this. I find this statement very fishy.lol....so basically LECOM takes care of the requirement they ask of u...
