I've never been one to push COMLEX scores as a big reason to choose a certain medical school because I think you can get a good eduacation at pretty much any COM-- as long as you apply yourself. But I thought I'd relate the latest information.... because you won't find it on the web site and there are some people who really do look at it as incredibly important.

For the class of 2009:

This includes the information available from 144 students-- information on the last 11 students is not available yet.

The pass rate is 97.2%

The average score is 543

Yes, the admistration is pleased thus far because it is above the national average. When the final results are in 'll give you an update.

For those of you who are just beginning the admissions process I wish you lot's of luck. :luck::luck::luck:

Very Nice .... I have always wanted to apply to there ( I love Flordia ), so I guess this is just one more reason. Impressive.

Thanks for posting that! It definitely is a plus in LECOM-B's favor although I agree that each person still has to put in the effort. Bradenton is our (my husband and I are both applying) top choice and having a strong COMLEX pass rate just makes it even more appealing.

Cool! Then you might find this interesting as well...interviews will begin in about 6 or 7 weeks, but they have a new twist this year. Prospective students will be sitting in on a PBL group session to get the "feel" of it. The administration really feels that people need to see it in action to know if it is really the method for them. Personally, I love it, but it isn't for everyone. You do need quite a bit of self motivation to survive. Good Luck...hope to see you! :luck::luck:

That's awesome! We've really tried to do a lot of research on PBL to see if it's for us and I think it would be great to see it in action. I would absolutely love to get an interview there I'm just hoping my yet-to-be-announced MCAT score doesn't kill my app.

thanks for letting us know scpod! that's awesome news 🙂
what's the scale for comlex? i know close to nothing about the exam, so i didn't know how to interpret an average score of 543. but 97% is pretty darn good!

scpod,

Thanks for posting that info.

I would like to learn more about PBL. Do you think the PBL system better prepares a self motivated student for the COMLEX than a traditional curriculum? It seems like your time can be used very efficiently with this method of study. I would imagine there must be a fair number of students who do their studying at the beach!

Does anyone have any first hand info on the quality of the rotations offered or a match list (i don't believe a class has entered residency yet, correct?)?

thanks!

You need 400 to pass and 500 is the average score. The standard deviation is 79.

I study well on my own and would like to learn more about PBL. Do you think the PBL system better prepares a self motivated student for the COMLEX than a traditional curriculum?

The school does provide board prep for you, but thus far PBL grades have a really high corelation to COMLX scores-- if you do well on PBL, you'll do well on COMLEX. PBL is the perfect learning mode for self motivated students because it provides the time to study on your own, but just enough personal interaction with your peers as well.

There are, but there are quite a few people who study at school too. I have a house with a pool and jacuzzi, so my favorite spot is out on the lanai under the canopy...lol.

You're right, there is no match list yet-- not til next spring. The rotations are actually changing quite a bit. When we started, we used a lot of rotation spots from the school in Erie for cores, but we are getting out of that. They want to keep the cores all in the southeast. The idea is to cut back on the number of spots in order to assure quality, as well as to keep people closer to Florida. So...some of the smaller places that don't have all the cores are being phased out and some of the places that haven't been 100% reliable are being phased out. Of course, you can still do electives, selectives, or FP rotations in those places if you want to.

Ultimately, they would like everyone to stay in one place for all of their cores. One of the problems has been housing-- some places have it available, but some don't. They are working on housing right now to work that out. Lecom will be leasing local housing in the core locations where it is not currently available and renting it at a reduced rate. Right now, about 75% of students could do all of their core rotations if they wanted to...but not everybody wants that. Hope that helps.:luck::luck:

Thanks for the info, that is great to see 🙂

Wow that is IMPRESSIVE! My school (COMP) is 30 years old and I don't think they've ever had that high of a percentage pass on first try. I believe you guys are just a few years old. Good work 👍

The scores from all but two students are finally in. The last two are taking COMLEX this month due to "personal reasons" so their scores will be in before too long. The scores improved just a little from the last update.

With 153 (of 155) scores in:

Pass rate is 97.4%

Average score is 545

I'd have to say congratulations Class of 2009, because those scores will be tough for any school to beat. PBL does work after all 😀.

wowowowowowowowow 😀

Thanks for the info scpod! I know the admin had told us that the '09 class had done very well overall but didn't really go into many specifics. They also mentioned that they've been making some tweaks to the PBL curriculum and that has seemed to also help so it definitely is somewhat reassuring to see some solid numbers come out!

SCPOD,

How do you know all of that information? It seems like an awful lot for a medical student to know? Shouldn't you be studying and not worrying so much about stats?

Let me know how I can find all this information out!

Hopeful pre-DO student 🙂

The info was presented to our whole class by the dean. I don't really get your point...?

SCPOD,

Like Dragonwell said, the dean told me. Of course, he told the rest of my class at the same time, so it's not a secret.

You'd be surprised. I know stuff about Physiology, Pharmacology, Anatomy and a lot of other subjects too 🙂

Shouldn't you be studying and not worrying so much about stats?

Oh...I study an awful lot. Plus, if I was worried about stats I wouldn't have come to Bradenton in the first place. When I first started nobody had taken COMLEX yet, but I believed in PBL and knew that good results would show up soon.

Let me know how I can find all this information out!

The easiest way is to apply, become a student and sit in on the Dean's Hour on Tuesday's. Other than that, you'll just have to wait for me to update you again 🙂

Good Luck
