Hey ya'll, I got my first interview this weekend and have it set for September 29th, at 8am. 👍

I was just wondering if anyone had any information on this school, opinions, etc. that I can not find on the website. Or if anyone else has an interview here, post! Maybe I'll see you there!

Yay, so pumped for it! 😀 Good luck everyone :luck:

Hey! Congrats. Just curious, when did you send your secondary? I don't think I remember reading it on the secondary thread.

I dont have an interview yet, my secondary application has just now been completed. I do know a 4th year at LECOM and she loves it, in fact, she is a student ambassador.

There is a dress code there except on OMM days. They have security at the door, according to her, they check your dress code and of course are there for other reasons since there is a pharmacy school on campus too. To a lot of people, this discourages them, but really, the school expects professionalism from day one. That doesn't bother me any.

Most student are in the LDP track, second are PBL, and lastly the independent track.

Hope this helps a little.

What does this mean? And what is the dress code? Scrubs? I wouldn't mind that in the least! I sent in my application a while ago... I want to say the beginning/middle of July...

I am sorry! Lecture Discussion Pathway (traditional), Problem Based Learning, and Independent pathway. At Erie-PA, you can choose 1 of these 3 pathways for the 1st 2 years of med school. It gives students options to pick the learning style that best accomodates their learning needs.

The dress code: no jeans, sweats, sandals, must where a tie (males),etc. In other words, professional attire only. I think you can't have any beverages in the lecture halls either.

I did my post-bac at LECOM and found that the school has great facilities and professors. The problem is the disorganization, it's insane. Attendance is mandatory and taken daily. Dress code is professional attire. If you are not in code, they will pull you aside and request that you leave campus and change. No food or drink anywhere but the student lounge. The lounge is insufficient to accomodate all the students and faculty at lunch.
The professors, like I said before, are great! Facilities are great! Administration less than perfect. There are good points to the school, but for me not enough. I did the post-bac program(did great) there and decided not to apply to the medical program. I felt that they told you what you wanted to hear and once you were there it was totally different.

Sorry this isn't totally positive, but it was my experience and I hope it helps.

I don't want to say anything I will regret. I will say they are a school trying to make a buck and that I did not have a positive experience there. I was not the only one that once we were done with the program wanted nothing to do with the school. That is all I will say, but if you get the chance try to talke to as many students as possible about their pros and cons. Maybe hook up with some of the former post-bacs and see what they have to say.

Best of luck!

I see.. but yeah i have talked to alot of former post baccs that are now MS1 at LECOM. They all loved it.. and so far I think the school is great. I guess it's either ur cool with the small group of admin staff, or ur not.. and that's a big factor at LECOM; which leads to one of the successful factors they require. Personality + A/B grades.

Btw, may I ask how you did in the program and what school did you end up going?

cheers

Did well, proud of my performance. Very active in all the extracurriculars and programs offered there. I did not apply to schools for 2005. Currently applying for 2006. It sounds like you have had a positive experience and that is great! I was just offering my experience in response to your post, I'm sorry that it wasn't more positive. But, that was just me. I hope that your experience will be nothing but the best!!

Best of luck!

First of all. Good luck with the interview. I interviewed there last year, and I can see why lots of people don't like this school. I personally could care less about dress code, and no eating policies in lecture halls etc. It is just 1 building, in a small city, (Erie population is 110K)., tons of snow. It is also the cheapest of all the private DO schools. I got accepted there by decided not to go there. Don't forget to search few LECOM threads that have been posted in the past and you will find tons of info about school.
Good luck.

Hello all,

I'm currently a first year, and could answer any questions you have about LECOM. Right now we are entering our 7th week of school!

I've heard a lot of over exagerations regarding the strictness of the school, or whatever. Everything is truly in the students best interest.

I like LECOM, I dont think my education is lacking in any way, and so far everything is really great. The class is very supportive of each other.

Erie is a good place, has everything you'd want. Downtown is pretty kickin on the weekends (there are three other colleges nearby). We are not far from cleveland, Buffalo, or pittsburgh so if you love museums or big concerts or sports, those arent far at all (although you wont have too much time for them).

so pm me with your questions and I will try to answer them as quickly as possible.

Ditto.

When I was applying to schools, I kept hearing terrible things about LECOM and their policies. I was super apprehensive about coming out here to go to school. Surprise, surprise. I get out here and my classmates are amazing, as are the facilities. Professors are young, very good at what they do and for the most part approachable. I had heard these ugly rumors about how unhappy the students are. I feel the majority of the students are very very happy here and I feel like our class (MSI's) is gelling very well. Do not let the location or the weather scare you off. You will get a very good education at LECOM and you will make friends, no doubt.
