LECOM-FL disguised?

Recently, I got accepted to LECOM-FL, and wanted to know other's opinions. To me, it seemed like a disguised mental institution. It was a very nice building, lots of windows, beautiful tile. However, the security cameras made me feel like I was insane. Not only that, but the building was empty, like they had put all the crazy med school students in the basement and locked them up. I did like the people I met there, the sandwich was the best I had encountered at a med school, and the PBL approach makes me giddy. Plus the beach is just a short drive. What do you guys think of this school that is gorgeous yet eerily empty?

I have never been inside a mental institution so I cannot answer your questions but I have been inside LECOM. I live here in Bradenton and attended their open house a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoyed it, because I enjoy the small schools where you get personal attention. I enjoy not having a lot of people and noise around me, so I really liked LECOM. Right now it is my first choice, since my wife and I are established here in Bradenton.
If you are used to be in huge university with thousands of students around you, it does not sound like LECOM will be the place to be for you. It all depends what you want.

Also, I was told that people leave their lap tops lying around, over night at times. Nothing is ever stolen. I personally like the idea of the security cameras, because my back can't handle carrying my lap top every where.

In general, I think it is a leading choice for me right now--over Erie.

I just had an interview there, and I didn't notice THAT many security cameras. Also, when I went, there were lots of people walking around and students studying in almost all the rooms we visited. Maybe you just happened to be there at a time when there's no class?

I go to Lecom Erie and enjoy the security of the campus. I can leave my laptop or belongings laying around and nothing gets touched. I've left my bag and with all of my books in the OMM over the weekend and nothing gets touched. I know the cameras might seem like alot, but I don't have to worry about petty theft.

I also visited LECOM for their OMAC/open house a few weeks back. This was my second visit there. I absolutely love it there... and right now its my first choice, it is really quiet, but i personally don't like noise when i am trying to study! =) It does NOT look like a mental institution! the security cams are a good thing...proves that they actually care about the safety of their students. But like onmywayRN said, if you like a big city etc... LECOM-FL isn't the place for you.

im a lecom erie student. i haven't been to bradenton personally, but since the entire program is pbl and the class isnt that big, you were probably just there when the pbl groups weren't meeting, etc. as the school gets older, they will probably continue to increase the class size a little (dont know that for a fact though). neither of the lecoms are affiliated with an undergraduate institution, so you dont really have other types of students around like you do at places like NOVA where there are students in other programs. at lecom erie there's bost-pacc and pharmacy, and our class is about 220, so it tends to be a bit busier than i imagine bradenton to be. if you're looking for something bustling with activity, go to a place like MSU-COM or OSU-COM or something.

oh and as far as the cameras go, they're all over lecom erie. i dont even notice them. they're just there to make sure no one destroys property, for example some local kids threw rocks at somebody's car (accidentally, if i recall correctly) in the parking lot and because it was on camera, the issue was easily resolved. its not like they have cameras in the bathroom or anything.

I went University of Central Florida. Cameras on every corner in the hallways. You get used to it. Nice to know someone is always watching your stuff though.
