Anyone have an interview at LECOM they want to talk about? There is no feedback, and the threads on this are kinda limited. I gather it was a group interview. How does that work exactly? Would you say it's stressful? What types of questions did they ask (ethical, basic, off-the-wall, etc)?

Also, what do you think of their unique learning pathway? Has it seen any success in their DO school?

Any input would be appreciated. 🙂

Hmm, no insight or opinions then?
I have been trying to gather information but no one is really eager to share. 🙁
I have mine next Wednesday (28th). I will share with you or anyone interested. 🙂
I really like the post about NOVA interview although I didn't apply there. It gave me a sense of what it is like!

mellow interview, basic questions. They just want to get to know you. PBL has great success in their DO program. 3 consecutive years #1 scores nationally at bradenton campus.

Really? That's all great to hear. I only wish I could check it out sooner!

Yeah, Definitely post a thread on it or something. I'll keep my eyes open for it. 👍

interviewed there yesterday and loved it. it was a great interview, very relaxed and warm environment. they give you a long presentation about PBL and how they will be doing it for the dental school as well as explaining how they will be arranging the clinical building that will be complete by next july. it is a very innovative set up and i would be happy to go to school here. as for the actual interview portion, it is a group interview of six students and two facilitators. the line of questioning was not difficult, but they do want you to be clear what they expect of you in the PBL system and to make sure that you know that you can handle it. most of the information that would want to know about the interview and what they expect you could glean from the interview packet and their explanation of PBL. the faculty are great people and the area is beautiful. the only negative i can say about the entire experience is that they require a $2,000 deposit if you are accepted. other than that it is a school well worth your consideration.

is LECOM private or public ?

and i also heard that they dont interview candidates who haven't finished their pre-reqs. Is this true ?

Private. As for the pre-req thing, idk. I had all my prereqs done, but I don't know if it's mandatory.

Private (and expensive 🙁 ). As for the pre-req thing, idk. I had all my prereqs done, but I don't know if it's mandatory.

compared to other private schools it's actually not that bad, especially when you see that the expected annual cost they show online includes estimates for living expenses, food, travel, etc. i would still give this school consideration even if i am accepted to a cheaper school.

also, i don't know about the prereqs. i have them all completed.

Any more news on the LECOM experience? Just google mapped the location and are they building it next to that golf course? That would be pretty legit.👍

why is the living expenses 5,000 bucks cheaper for D2, D3, and D4? So much work you gotta starve yourself? lol

No clue. I asked the same thing. Maybe its kind of a "oh crap look how far in debt I am" syndrome kicking in. 😀

the group interview is actually very relaxed and easy. you won't get the chance to answer every question, and you shouldn't try to answer them all - don't be an interview hog. just answer enough of the questions to stay involved in the discussion and show the facilitators who you are. of course you should be prepared to answer any of the typical interview questions - why dentistry, etc. the facilitators will know your application inside and out. once i introduced myself to one of the facilitators she began asking me specific questions about where i went to school and other aspects of my file. but they were all very friendly and relaxed through the whole process and i was impressed with the whole experience.

Wow that actually sounds... kinda fun! did they ask you any personal kind of questions in front of everyone?

there were a couple of personal questions, but just as follow up questions based on the response to the initial question. yeah, it was kinda fun. good luck!

I just had to cancel my interview here so I hope someone else gets my spot. Good luck everyone! 😀 I am kind of sad I am missing out, it might be exciting to be part of an inaugural class

alright guys
sorry for getting back to you late.
i had another one and i didnt have wifi.............................

Group interviews were a little challenging.
I'm not gonna talk about questions they ask since I don't know the school policy on this. At the square shape talbe, 3 students sit on each side. and each faciliators take one side. Questions are not hard, pretty simple. You raise your hand to answer the questions, and everyone takes turrns. I found it a little challenging since I can't really control the pace of the interview. It's a open file. I stuttered a little bit but overall I think I delivered my main key points.

I am not gonna talk about the overall interview. u will be hearing from the presentation.
the interview lasts from 8am to 2pm. so embrace yourself.

My overall impression was that they are pretty passionate about new systems/facilities and have a pretty good idea how they want to run it. Some of key faculty used to work at different dental schools so they try to incorporate all the postives and fix some issues they had at the previous schools.

I fly into Tampa and rented a car. The GPA navigation did not work properly so I had hard time getting there. AND Don't forget. there is a toll gate and it is a dollar. I didn't have any cash so i gotta mail my check otherwise there will be a warrant for me and I have to pay $100 or something.

Personally, if I were to make choices again, I would either take a shuttle to Bradenton or arrive in Bradenton. I was stressed about it and it was not pleasant especially when I need to worry about the interview.

Tampa was beautiful and seems to be a good city. I got a good vibe.

If I get in here, I will consider attending.
If I have multiple offers, I will weigh out my options.
LECOME has pros and cons just like any other schools.

They told us so far they send out 365 by december.(eaxact number as far as I remember) and will be taking 100 of them. They will send out mails (not emails) in the first week of December. You will have 30 days to make a decision and the deposit is $2000.
They will replace those uncommitted (by Dec) with new interviewees in Post-December.

Thus, the chances are roughly 1 out 4.
I hope I can share joy and excitment with you when those mails come around in the first week of december.
Good luck everyone

thanks for the heads up A6, 1 in 4 hmm? kinda bad odds for a new school trying to establish itself. well see what happens, i have yet to hear from them, but i assume i wont hear back post dec.

^ well that blows 🙁..so does this mean that they'll start sending out post dec interview invites around january (after the decision deadline for those who committed?)

If you don't mind me asking, how much of this 6 hour marathon is devoted to the actual interview? I was a little surprised by the length considering there isn't a school to tour yet. Was it mostly about the school's presentation?

the interview lasts 45 minutes just about. divide that by 6 people it isn't bad. and also we didn't raise our hands to answer questions. just kind of sensed an opening and answered, or responded to someone elses answer. not very hard. standard interview questions covered ethics, personal questions etc. tough to get a real feel w/o an actual school built. but it seems like a good program in the works.

will have my interview at LECOM soon. Got an attire question? Is it an overkill for me to wear a suit jacket to the interview?

everyone wears a suit jacket. thats adds to the professionalism.

It won't matter at LECOM. They'll be happy that you attended.

homey, why you mad though?

so much resentment for this school lol. did they tar and feather you at your interview or something? it's just mind boggling to see someone with so much hate for a school

 I'm just having fun with my LECOM comments. But seriously, you couldn't pay me to go to this school. I would rather reapply in the next app cycle than go there. I mean why would you pay $90K in your 4th year to work as a dental assistant? LOL. But hey, whatever floats your boat. Just like with fat chicks, there's something for everyone.

what do u mean 4th year as an assistant?

i'm not too familiar with the curriculum. care to elaborate? dental assistant in the 4th year?

edit: i found more info on LECOM's site..

personal preference IMO. i for one hate lectures, as i got through most of college by just reading the textbooks, so i'm all for hands on learning

There's been a thread or two about how 4th yr students have to work in private practice dental offices due to the lack of patients, and wind up merely serving as a dental assistant/shadower. I'm surprised you fellas missed this thread.

i thought that first yr u work as a dental assistant. and in 4th year, u go to the underprivileged area and do dentistry there (like outreach programs/external rotation)
I am not sure though

You're right. 4th year would be an AEGD residency basically at two of their owned outreach clinics. The only downside to that is finding a new apartment and moving all that crap again. take a look at the pdf in the flashdrive they gave.

Anyone else have some interview insight, maybe some specific questions/what was the toughest question was? Also, are they still doing group style interviews?

Thank you!!!
