Hello everyone !
Just wanted to see some opinions. I got accepted to LECOM-B ! Really loved it! Pretty sure I will be going there. I'm from the northeast and I got an invitation from LECOM-e for January, was wondering if it worth going to. It's about 8 hours drive from my house so it's not close enough to make a location difference and it's no Florida. Since they are sisters schools I was wondering if it was worth going to the interview .
Thanks !!

The 4 kids I've met from LeCom eriee all talked crap about the school. The one girl I met from LeCom-B had nothing but positive things to say about her school and she did really well on her boards. I'd skip the interview.

yeah, but I have a friend that goes to lecom-b and hates it because he despises pbl. If you think youd enjoy pbl go to lecom-b, if youd rather do lecture go to the eerie interview

I think I read on another thread that the PBL sections at LECOM-E are full. Anyone that indicated that they wanted PBL only are on a waiting list. Only interviews for the lecture and independent study are open...

I could be wrong. I think it was the LECOM school specific thread where it was being talked about.

I would choose LECOM-B over LECOM-E just for the location sake. 🙂

Agreed with the others. Skip Erie if you feel you can handle PBL. I got into both LECOMs but chose Bradenton because of the location (Florida versus northwest PA... easy choice for me!) and I am usually a pretty good independent "studyer," so I figure I can handle PBL.

When I went to my Erie interview I was flipping through the TV channels in my hotel room and saw there were two shootings in the Erie area. The area seemed relatively safe and every place has its ups and downs, but I couldn't help but think in my mind, "Great, what am I getting myself into!"

Take your LECOM-B acceptance. It's probably where I would be if I wasn't accepted to the school I am currently at.

I interviewed in Erie and was really turned off by the school. I actually liked Erie, but the school felt like a prison.

PM cabinbuilder

She went to LECOM and could give you some advice

I have friends who went to LECOM-B and felt the same way. The other Ferretti brother runs the Florida campus (there is a reason he isn't in PA anymore). Anyhow, either campus will give you a good education. PBL is a LOT of self learning so if that is not your learning style it may not be to your advantage. I personally LOVED going to school in Erie (yes the weather sucks) but I always felt like it was family and that they really cared that you learned what you needed to pass the boards and help was always available to those struggling. Yes, there are rules and to someone just coming out of undergrad they may seem oppressive but for someone who has punched a timeclock and had bosses, etc. It really isn't that much different than corporate America. I thought residency rules were stricter. Pre-med interview opinion doesn't carry as much weight as post-grad reality. Remember that when reading some of these posts. If you are immature you will hate the rules, if you are older and have lived a little it's basic everyday stuff.

Sums it up well. I'd take this advise to heart.

I'm at LECOM-E and wouldn't consider going to LECOM-B. Each school definitely has their pros and cons. If you're all about Florida and want to rotate / practice there, then I would recommend LECOM-B. If you're looking more Northeast/Ohio/MI, then LECOM-E would be a better choice (NOT saying you wouldn't be able to match outside of where your school is, it's just easier to make connections if you're doing rotations in those areas). If it's an 8 hour drive and a $60/night for the hotel I wouldn't pass it up unless I was deadset on Florida.

And even if you are set on Florida, it would be the perfect time for a joke interview ;-)

I am in your position as well. Will be canceling my Erie interview soon. can't stand the cold!

That was me, when I was offered my acceptance it was LDP Erie with a waitlist PBL Erie spot or direct admission into seton hill PBL.

I know MANY people at LECOM-E. Many will openly tell interviewees to take other acceptances if they have them. While both are good schools and prepare you well academically, I believe people are genuinely happier at Bradenton because Erie is extremely prison-esque. If I were you, the ONLY reason I would go to Erie was if I was interested in a pathway aside from PBL. Also, I've been to both places...Bradenton is much nicer! 👍

Go with what the Cat says! I didn't get a good "feel" in the Erie campus at all. And it's just too gray and lacks life. I'm sure others like the school, but those are just the impressions I got from being there that day. It also wasn't fun being hustled around the school like cattle! I think there were 40 of us that day.

Bradenton has clowns!

Lol..You didn't get a good "feel'? Did you call a council and tell the other Jedis? If you're going to knock something at least do it for a concrete reason.

Yes. Between the student interactions, the staff, and the building. I've been to many interviews this season and this had the least best "feel". Hope that's ok with you 🙂

I'm not so sure that's a bad reason. Many people choose schools based on how they feel about it/how they think they fit all the time. While it may not be a productive reason when giving someone else advice, I can see where they are coming from. I actually didn't get the feeling I fit at either LECOM campus, but there are many people out there who do. It's just personal preference I suppose.

🙁 I just wanted to get some input I said I'm excited and like the school so why bash it ?...

This is funny because I am having the opposite problem. I have been accepted into Erie PBL (mailed deposit today) but have a LECOM-B interview in January.

Think I am going to cancel the LECOM-B interview as I am from Ohio and would like to do my rotations, residency, and eventually practice in this geographic area.

Are u saying you are excited about Erie or Bradenton? No one bashed Bradenton. And if you were excited about Erie, why would you ask the question about whether or not to go? I'm confused 😕 Didn't mean to make you un-excited about anything. My point was in my opinion Bradenton was the better choice anyways!

Honestly, If you really are struggling to make a decision then just go ahead and check out what they have to offer especially since you don't live too far from LECOM-Erie . You have to take everything you read on SDN with a grain of salt. If I went by all all the hate that LECOM gets on SDN, I wouldn't be considering going there. You being in such close proximity to the school reduces your traveling expenses which is why I think you should go to the interview so you are not left wondering "what if ? " If $$ wasn't an issue, I wouldn't have cancelled my Erie interview.BUT If you are set on PBL, then I wouldn't go because as some have already mentioned, Erie doesn't have much spots left for PBL. Call them to confirm this info.

I am a first year PBL student at Erie and I absolutely love it. I double-clutched at coming here to Erie for many of the same reasons everyone does but in all honesty it's a great school and a great program (especially PBL)

im an LDP oms 1 and i like it here so far. we have some really awsome professors (micro/bio) and some bad ones which youll get everywhere. but the people accepted here are awsome. ive made a lot of friends and i find professors/deans extremely friendly and approachable myself. now some higher ups no but everyone on campus or who you see everyday is fine. the reputation of lecom erie is stellar. i would go to the interview and see how you like it.

the only thing to think about it, the LDP curriculumn is VERY difficult compared to other pathways. if you learn in lecture like myself, then do ldp, but it is NOT fair. pbl and dsp seems like there curriculumn is very fair but i dont feel the same way

There's a school-specific forum for a reason.
