Hi SDN,

I already got in a DS on dec 1st, but i was waitlisted at LECOM. i turned in the proper paperwork to accept the waitlist position (why? just to see if they accept me or not). I was requesting background check at the school I got in. and Coincidentally, they drop me from the waitlist (with the status saying I, applicant, withdrew while I didn't) the exact same time cerphiti sent me the background check email.

Maybe it was an accident or a mix up? You could just call and ask. I never heard of them doing this. Or maybe they withdrew you because you needed to respond to their waitlist at X amount of time? LECOM staff responds to emails pretty quickly (at least for me they do).

I responded to their email already and they have my status as "applicant accepts alternate list position" for a while until now, when certiphiti asks me to do background check for mwu az

It's probably an accident. I would call them instead of raging on SDN about it. Don't get ahead of yourself... once someone quotes your post it can never be erased- just a word of warning.

i would not post if i was afraid i will be quoted.

Seems like a accident. I would just email/call them about it.

Were you actually interested in attending to LECOM over your other acceptances? Cause some people (like me) would like to get off the waitlist and actually get in :hungover:

just for clarification. this was not their mistake lol. it is official.

You would if people knew who you were like I do when we met at Midwestern haha

lol

MWU is also a very new school, and much more expensive. LECOM is the wiser choice of the two. See if you can contact them about what happened and get it fixed.

In response to the above 2 posts

Yes, I am serious.

The goal is to become a dentist, not see who can reach the highest level of debt.
There are dentists who graduated from Iran, India, Pakistan etc and working in the US and are more successful than US graduates.

Call me crazy if you wish, but I would always choose the cheapest option.

You seemingly criticized MWU-AZ as a newer school, which it most certainly is, but it has built up quite a reputation for itself since it opened.

have you interviewed at both Mwu-az and lecom? Lecom is surely a wiser choice of the two for cheaper option and if you want to give ur future patients all dentures and fillings and cleanings, and a few crowns. the implants, endo, etc you learn in GPR and AGED. The thing about LECOM is their own representative admits finding 2 patients each day for each student is ALOT. like seriously? when you can't even have 2 patients a day, what is ur ambition to become a semi competent dentist upon graduation? and they make its students advertise at fairs and stuff.

one thing to note about LECOM is that their price is cheaper but not actually much cheaper because they make u buy the dental kit that is not included in the fees while MWU-az rents it out and include everything in the fees and other hidden fees at LECOM ( i calculate the price difference is about 70k after taking everything into account of both schools, which is a lot but given the quality difference of both school, i dont trust spending that huge loans on LECOM). However, after all i live in california which means flying from west coast to east coast for 4 years may total up to 10k (including car shipping and stuff). so the price difference is honestly 60k, which is still alot.

LECOM's patient pool has severe problems. they dont have much technologies. MWU-AZ is new but at least its almost 10 years old and has multiple graduation classes and a good track record of specialization. However, LECOM has no graduating class yet and words on the street say their first supposedly graduating class 4th year failed the typodont (idk if i spell correctly) up to 70%, yes the super expensive clinical boards)

But you are right, if MWU-AZ only has the technologies but not huge patient pool like it does now (literally feel like a nursing home there with too many elders), I wouldn't think it has much to offer. However, the DAT and GPA average at MWU-AZ is very competitive for private schools.

yes, it is true that a dentist is a dentist at the end and same school graduates dentists with different qualities. however, I just want to have a good base to become a semi competent dentist to grow from there after graduation.

How does one "fail" a typodont?

to my knowledge, clinical boards are just P/F. there are pre set standards that ur hand skills must produce this level of dentistry on typodont. if not, you fail. obviously LECOM dental students play around too much with dentures but fail typodont.

My brother has several friends who are board examiners. They all told him the same thing - over 70% failed
Can things like this cause a school to lose accreditation? Or are they completely unrelated?

I intend to ask questions about the boards and passing rates when I fly there this week for an interview. That's scary though, hopefully they have a plan of attack to reverse that number.

Could you please report back to us with what you learn.

Huh? They owned up to it when I called them.

I was joking. I just mean they didn't even have it in the first place so they couldnt lose it 🙂

when I interviewed there they told us they had a passing rate of over 95 percent on the boards for their most recent class. Something along those lines.
