Those that remember me, I was the one that defered my acceptance till next year. I want to drive down one of these weekends and buy some of the first year text. Is there a willing first or second year ISP volenteer to meet me at the book store for help? There is a free meal in it for ya!!

for real, my group is paying for all my books. May as well get a jump.

Hey Bandit,
I am not a LECOM student but a NYCOM studdent. i would really urge u not to buy books that are assigned (i am not sure that first years have gotten this concept yet)but to buy review books instead. also, campus stores will rip u off. including are some review books that i likedd;

the only texts i would buy:
Moore clinically orriented anatomy
Costanzo's physiology text- a gem- more like a rfeview book written in text format
Netters atlas
Netters flash cards

BRS Physio
BRS PAth
BRS Anatomy
BRS Histo- a lot of people don't like this book
lipincots biochem
Micro made ridic simple

trust me u will not have the time and desire to read texts. if u want to do anything with your year off, read the physiology book, and really master it. physio is mostly concepts so it won't be wasted and will be helpful. i hope that others can give you more school specific advice.

I appreciate the advise. I have been an ER PA practicing as a solo practioner in a rural ER for some time now. This only means that I have all the "essential Basic texts." Actually I have quite the impressive libray, But What I need is perhaps the ISP packets/ modules and a few little books I have not studied in depth.

It's my understanding that you need most, if not all, of the required texts for ISP. And, if they're being paid for, why not?
I could be wrong but- ISP is not a learning pathway where you can get away with just review books. I'm in PBL and I can't get away with just review books either. If you were in lecture, well then I'd say buy review, but not ISP.

my point exactly. They are free. I will take all that I dont own.

I'm a current LECOM ISPer,
Since you're getting the books for free, then why not go for broke right. Keep in mind however that there are bound to be a few changes in the book list from this to next year. This year for example gross is using a new book, the ISP micro book has changed as well as the physio one, and unlike many other subjects you should always get the latest edition of whatever pharm book is needed.

With ISP you buy quite a few books for the first year, but in the second you simply re-use what you have and only need 2-3 new ones. I also do have many review books which are a big help. After reading Robbins path and getting every little detail it's nice to go to the BRS path and hone in on what's important.

As far as bookstores go LECOMs prices are right in line with B&N, Borders, etc. Since yours will be free you don't need to hunt through e-bay and amazon like the rest of us. 👍

If you want to come up just give me a weeks notice or so and I'll sign you up as a visitor so I can take you to the bookstore.

Incidently I'd just wait to get the books, unless you're not sure if the freeby deal will be there later. There are certain universal items that you learn in each disipline, but there are a lot of variations as to what's important in a given subject, depending on who's teaching it. So reading ahead really won't do yo any good. Besides you'd forget most of what you saw anyway, but that's a different subject.
