Hey guys, I'm hoping to see if I can find out more about these programs. I've been trying to contact the school but I can never reach the admission/program directors. They have a one yr post bac and a 2yr masters in biomed sciences. I want to know more about admission criteria so I can choose wisely, I guess. I can't find any posts here regarding MS at lecom either. Their website notes that it's a new program and seems like it's an additional year of coursework/research leading to masters vs. one yr of post bac. Any help is appreciated.

I'll bite.

The M.S. program is completely new. As in if you apply you're apart of the first LECOM M.S. class. Their post-bacc in the biomedical sciences has been around for a while and I'm sure since you posted about this, you took some time to look into their website. Their curriculum is much like that which you will find in other 1 year prorams as a comprehensive curriculum in the pseudo med school classes, ie. immunology, virology, histology, anatomy etc. Class size is about 60ish or so and you take all your classes apart from the medical students but under the medical school faculty. If you score a 3.3 in the program and above a 23-24 MCAT, you will be guaranteed an interview around the month of February for the class for next year.

The M.S. is a new deal that they had just created which seems as if it's more or less the post-bacc attached with the second year of research which they will grant you a Masters degree upon completion. I'm guessing it's the same deal with the interview and the cons would be spending an extra year, the pros would probably be getting a Masters degree and some background in research which will undoubtedly help you when you apply for residency. The Post-Bacc will only give you a certificate.

That said, 2 of my friends have already gone through LECOM's post bacc program and one should have her interview on Wednesday actually. According to her some of her friends in the class have already gotten a conditional acceptance letter. You can prefer the PBL, IS or lecture based tracks but I guess they decide which track you ultimately get placed into. Tuition is about 12-13K.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. I've also learned about the program through a friend who attends the FL campus but knows ppl who have done the post bac. In any case, my concern is getting accepted to either program, and to me it seems that admission to the MS would be easier, since they don't even require MCAT scores. Are you applying there?

Yes I have applied there and ultimately it would be nice to have an MCAT score anyway since you would be applying right after your spring quarter if you did the M.S. when all your classes are finished so you can present to the medical school your transcript for the first year.

This and Barry's 1 year MBS track are the two 1 year programs that I applied to and this one is a lot mm.. higher on my list of considerations to attend as opposed to the other but it's not exactly "ideal" for mostly personal reasons so hopefully I will have other options later. Either way, LECOM's post-bacc is recommended by my friends and the tuition is relatively cheap as they go. If you also want 1 year programs, I hear MWU's MA program is quite good.
