I just wondered if anyone had been through this program and had any inside info about it? They claim that 90% of its graduates gain admissions to DO schools and it seems like a pretty good program. Any info appreciated.

Hey

I know that the post baccs get pretty much the same material as us MS1s....and some MS2 stuff! It seems to be a great program. However, you are NOT guarenteed to get into to LECOM Erie. I have a post bacc friend...from what it sounds like, everyone (or close to it) has acceptances somewhere...

It's ture that most people get into LECOM or into other schools. I did the program last year and most of my class got in. The notes are mostly identical to the MS1 notes as well.

I applied and I am waiting to hear from them. I had a couple of bad grades during undergrad, so I am finishing up my o chem this summer at my state school and hopefully attending there in the Fall. can you guys give me any more info? I am wondering what the admissions process is like through the program. I was told that you are guaranteed and interview and as long as you post bac grades are good and you have a decent MCAT (mine was 28Q), then your pretty much not going to have trouble gaining admissions. I wondered, do you apply regular through aacomas, and when do you interview for the DO program at LECOM? I am just wondering if I need to start my aacomas stuff in June and apply throught he regular process. Another question...will I have time to work during the post bac program(I am a paramedic), or is it just to challenging and time consuming? Do they give pretty generous financial aid awards to allow students to not work? Any info you can give would be great, and thanks for replying.

Hey

I think the post baccs interviewed around Feb. this year. I know that my post bacc friend works and goes home during the weekends....she is doing very well in the program.

In general, LECOM has a very nice student budget....

The application process in the same. You are guaranteed an interview as long as you do well in the program. You will not interview until Februrary. They gave us a interview prep class so we knew what to look foreward to. You can get the exact questions off this site and they are usually the same every year. Your MCAT score is great. If you do well in the program, your few bad grades are not going to be a problem. Again, I would have to say that almost ALL of the post bacc's get in every year. The few exceptions are those whom failed classes in post bacc. Yes you can hold a job during the program. They will tell you that you should not have a job, but you only go to class 4 or 5 days a week (it varied when I was in it) from 6pm to 9pm. I did hear that they did make the program a little more intense this year, but I don't think it was thatr much more overwhelming from when I was in it. Start your ACCOMAS stuff early and get it over with. They won't tell you this, but you can also download the LECOM secondary in June and turn that in too. As for FA, I think tuition was $6000 per semester and we were given around $6000 - $7000 for living expenses for each semester. Overall, it's an excellent program that is challengeing and you will learn a lot from it. The program is fair in that if you do the work you will be in med school the next year. You can download the application off the LECOM web site.

Wow, thats a lot of great info. I appreciate it. I have already applied and I was told today that they have finished reviewing my application and have would be mailing my letter out tomorrow. This makes me a little nervous because I was thinking....if I were accepted than why did they not say so. All they would say is that the letter had been generated and I would get it soon, and I thought it would be improper to ask, so I didn't, but it does not sound very promising. In fact, I heard that they usually call to tell you if you are accepted, and I got no call, just the email that said the review was finished and a letter had been generated. Maybe I am just looking into this too deep, I am just really hoping to attend their program. Working full time through college with a family has hurt my gpa, and this program is like the last chance at my dream. We will see in a few days I guess when the mail comes. Anyway, thanks for explaining things to me, it helps a lot.

I am planning on attending the postbac at LECOM this upcoming fall and I wanted to know if there is anybody else out there will also doing the same. I would like to make a few contacts before I head out there.
Also, has anyone else gotten information regarding housing and financial aid? I have not gotten anything from them after the acceptance letter.

I have not got anything but the letter either. I found financial aid stuff on the web site, si i am filling it out and sending it in. I emailed them, but no response either. Anyhow, I'll be there this fall too!

I am also attending the Lecom postbacc in September and I have just received the list of names looking for room mates. I am trying to find anyone that is also looking to share expenses, a non smoker. My name is Cary and I am at the top of the list if you received one.

It is sad to say but you are pretty much granted a seat in LECOM after doing the post-bac as long as you are not a minority. all of the minorities were waitlisted except for 2 there were a total of 18! and gpa's ranged from 3.5-4.0. There were some non-minority students that got in with gpa's under 2.7!!!! Student affairs told everyone as long as they did well there was a seat for them, UNTIL everyone did WELL! Then they started to dig back into students files and talk about mcats and past grades which they said they would not do. Professors who got involved were told to mind their business. conditions got so bad students had to get lawyers. Most students were afraid of speaking up for fear of never getting a seat. They would not even take these student when lecom bradenton only had 50 people! very weird school. be concern about a school owned by a brother and sister in which the brother is the CEO and the sister is the dean. :scared:

Students getting lawyers...I don't believe that one bit.

And LECOM isn't OWNED by the Dean and CEO.

I find this story VERY hard to believe. Especially since they told me personally that 90% of the post bac students got in last year. I find it even harder to believe that any medical school is racist.

...our post-bac program had a lot of problems... don't know about the lawyers, but i believe discrimination was a part of it.... i can tell you more if you want to know... just pvt. me... later yo-

I agree with you Truly Blessed. LECOM is a joke!!! If you are minority, you will get screwed. They are only out to get your money. The Postbacc director has no pull. He cannot get you into LECOM. You can have a 4.0 post bacc G.P.A. and still get waitlisted/rejected. Trust me people, don't make the same mistake I did. Now I have a loan to pay back and I only have a postbacc certificate to show for it. If I had known I would have done a Master's Program instead. Yes!!! I am still ont he waitlist and its July 2nd. I have a A- postbacc G.P.A. and they are letting non-minorities in with a 2.7 G.P.A. What does that say?? LECOM is RACIST!!! Like Malcom X said "By any means necessary" I will let people know about this school. Minorities beware of LECOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not racist, but it pisses me off to know that I spent all this money on a postbacc program and I did not get in. For those of you who think Racism does not exist in medical school, you are wrong.. (Wake up!! Its is everywhere; at jobs, schools, etc.) If you need or would like to know more information feel free to PM me.

I find this hard to believe...esp coming from a person with 0 posts...

Doctor2be,
How could you dare say that something does not exist and I am telling you that the class of 2004 experience horrible racist issues. You were probably one of those 2.7 students, And on top of that there was so much gpa inflation in that program I don't see how anyone could have had less than a 3.0 Are you a Minority? How many minorities are in your class? how many were in your postbac? uh do you know? Better question do you care? Wake up Doctor2be its real. Lecom is owned and operated and held under complete lock down by the Feretti's what are you talking about! NO ONE in that school has a voice and everyone is afraid of speaking up for fear of being punished.
some one please call admissions?
questions to ask:
how many were in the post bac of 2004?
how many were minority?
how many waitlisted?
how many of those were minority?
 that simple!
I would never tell anyone not to go to the program, you learn a lot. If you study, you will do exceptionally well. My message is have a backup plan and if you are a minority have a couple of back up plans. and don't believe anything they say.

I know doctortobee's not able to get to her computer now, so Im gonna defend her!!! no seriously, she's actually one of the top students at LECOM in her class, she doesn't have a 2.5 gpa. she knows so much about the school and how it works, I would not take what she says lightly. She knows her stuff, and I too was a post bacc this year and waitlisted, but I fortunately got off. I personally do not think there are minority issues with the waitlist but I really dont' wanna get involved in that. just my 2 cents. I'm hoping you guys get off, I know it's total hell being waitlisted. good luck.

I am not trying to make this ugly people. I just want everyone to know the truth. I know what I am talking about as well and I have no problem being upfront. Kyle54 when there was a petition going around about the unjustices in the program did you sign it or where you one of the students too afraid, while getting all of the help you possibly could from some of the dedicated students who started the petition? LECOM sucks admit it I am not going there to fake like Its wonderful and that everything is great NO! I am there to get my degree, I am not offering bad advise. I just joined this network trust me I am not going no where worry about what messages I post later, I am tallking about LECOM NOW!

I signed that petition to help myself and others.

I'm confused, Trulyblessed, are you a post bacc in Erie? Is there a way you can get everyone's stats? As for right now, I know quite a bit of minorities that will be attending LECOM Bradenton. My roommate happens to be hispanic. If you link (nicedream) 's homepage, you can see some of the diverse students we will have.

Has anyone gotten their financial aid information from LECOM for the Post Bacc? The reason I am asking is because we are only a month away from starting classes and I still don't have any loans.

wow good luck with the financial aid part.

Hi.

I'll be starting the post-bacc in the fall too, and I was just wondering where everyone is planning on living. I just took a day trip to Erie today to look around a little and try to find a nice place. If you have already decided on a place, tell us where and why you liked it, and maybe something you might not like about it.

See everyone in Sept!

Are you talking about underrepresented minorites or all minorities regardless of representation status in medical schools?
