Hello everybody,

I have read past threads about the PCSP pathway, and was hoping to receive some more info on this program. I interview at LECOM seton hill in a few weeks and am seriously considering putting down the PCSP as my number one choice. For those who chose this pathway do you feel it was the right choice? Will I be able to put this down as an option if I am interviewing at Seton hill? Is the learning style lecture based or pbl for those in this pathway? How will Erie decide if I’m a good fit for this program if I am interviewing at Seton Hill? Thanks for any input, really excited about this possibility.

Always wary of these links. It's not a bad opp, but if you're competitive enough why not apply the normal way and have options?
Who knows what you'll connect with 3rd year rotations - this program says you can only go IM/FM/Peeds?

For ex, I came into med school thinking only gen surg... and before I've even gotten into my 3rd year, I've added IM and Psych as another 2 rotations I'm very much looking forward to.

Disregard this message if I totally didn't understand the "PC pathway" thing haha.

Cheers!

I've looked into it, but the only options for fellowships after the residency would not allow me to practice my desired sub-specialty. It is a very nice program for people who are dead set on IM or FM PCP route, but I would just feel bad to be locked in like that. IM and FM residencies are not super competitive anyway, so unless you just want to graduate a year earlier, I don't see it. Just my 2 cents.

For LECOM, regardless where you interview, the committee/admissions decisions are a centralized committee where you rank your top pathways and campuses during your interview. (ex if you interviewed at erie, but then decided your #1 was seton hill, you put the seton hill campus as #1)

As of now I am very set on family medicine and i understand that there is always the possibility it could change. I think that being able to get done school in three years would really benefit me, so it is something I am strongly considering

Why cut out every other possibility just to save yourself a year? What if you decide you absolutely don't want FM? I'm a pediatric nurse, but when I was in nursing school I was dead set on critical care, never thought I would work with kids. I ended up falling in LOVE with pediatrics. Thing is, you have no idea what you're going to want to do in the end. Why limit yourself?

They seemed like they really didn't want people to, but they made it clear during my interview that if you decided you really didn't want to do primary care, you could switch back into the normal program, and take the full 4 years. They just seemed to be gunning for people who were super committed to family medicine.
