Please help me decide since I just received an interview for Louisville and wanted to make it worthwhile. Both will be OOS.

LECOM is cheaper overall by about $100k but other than costs its main drawback is the PBL style curriculum.

Louisville is an established school, public school with better reputation than lecom.
More expensive by about 100k.

Any thoughts/advice?

I know it’s not guaranteed but in case I do get an offer I want to be prepared with a decision. Is the extra money worth it to go to Louisville for all the cons I mentioned about lecom - PBL style curriculum etc.

If you want to do a competitive specialty then yes. If you want to do primary care then no.

Can you please help explain why it would be easier to specialize with Louisville? I ask because I’ve also read many ppl say here that it does not matter where you go to specialize later so I’m confused. Thanks

That’s definitely not true. Look at the match rate for DO compared to MD for anesthesiology, orthopedics, plastics, Derm. You will have a harder time matching these as a DO. Not to say it’s impossible because it isn’t. There are stellar DO students who match these fields every year, but the match data doesn’t lie. There is still a bias for MD students in these specialties.

this is dental

obviously some dental schools provide advantages (no ranking, P/F, etc.) but I don't think that applies to either of these institutions.

LOL, I apologize. Not sure how I ended up over here.
Welcome to the Dental forms

It does make a difference depending on the school. I am not sure if these two schools make a difference. But other ones have higher success at matching students (Columbia, UPenn, Harvard, UCSF, etc.), whereas the newer schools do not typically have as much success as those schools (at least my school hasn't been very successful).

What location would you rather live in? $100k is a steep difference.

Also, is your goal to specialize?

Great question, it’s hard to know what it will be four years from now but I’d like to keep the option to specialize if I want to and don’t want name of school to limit my options. Is that true for any of these two or it won’t matter so much. How much do specialization schools weigh the name of schools you do your dental degree from when selecting for residency interviews?

Both Louisville and LECOM are traditional in the sense they give you a letter grade and a class rank. With that said, go to the cheaper school and just focus on being top of your class. That will get you interviews if you want to specialize down the line.
