Right now I have acceptance letters from Howard University and from LECOM (Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine). I'm having a hard time deciding where to go though, and was wondering if any of you would impart some insight (and any "insider information") regarding those schools?
In regards to tuition and fees Howard is $15,000x4 yrs, LECOM is $25,000x3yrs. The strong point of LECOM is that it is a 3 yr program, and it's supposed to have a beautiful campus with good faculty/student interaction (I did a phone interview with them and never got to visit the campus). While I would like to get my degree as soon as possible, Howard has the appeal of being in a major city ( D.C.) which would place me closer to friends/family and more practical experience opportunities, not to mention my fiancee would have an easier time finding a job there. One drawback about Howard, however, is that it recently had some accreditation issues with the AACP, and even though Howard's admission staff stated that the problems have been addressed and that they will not lose accreditation, my confidence in the program's quality is somewhat shaken.
I'm still waiting to hear back from the other schools I interviewed with. Unfortunately, Howard and LECOM demands a response by early next week. One thing I would like to know is, how's the area around LECOM, and what kind of student life does it offer? And how serious is the accreditation issue with Howard? Any thoughts/advice about this situation?
Thanks for your help!
