I liked MWUAZ better than LECOM at the interviews

Visited both schools and I would definitely choose MWU-AZ over LECOM.

I was in your same situation. After interviewing at Midwestern AZ I was convinced that was the place I wanted to go. The facilities were great, the cases that I was told the students were seeing were great, and it really liked how their curriculum was set up with pounding out the basic science classes all in the first year. After interviewing and being accepted at three other schools (lecom, Indiana, and Detroit mercy) I still liked midwestern's program the best, but I could not justify their cost of attendance. Still torn between the other three schools, I somewhat took a leap of faith going with the 3 year old LECOM (despite all of the mostly unfounded hate they receive on this site). What drew me in was the small school feel it had, the way that the clinic is broken into 10 different 10-chair group practices, having a denture patient second semester, and the gpr-like 4th year (which is a major down side in some people's eyes). Also, as I'm finding out LECOM pounds out all the basic sciences first year like Midwestern promised. So far, I'm pleased with the decision I made. Not sure if that helps you at all, but that was my thought process when I was deciding. Good luck

Yes very helpful! Do you go to LECOM already? Or did you just get accepted?

Also isnt the cost between midwestern and lecom very similiar?

Yep, D1. Last year when I was deciding, Midwestern AZ cost of attendance was about 105k/yr (ish, don't remember exactly). LECOM's cost of attendance is 86k/year. Then multiply each of those numbers by 4...Obviously with COA there's places you can save, like with where you live and that kind of stuff, but I assumed I'd have the same spending habits in Glendale as I would in Bradenton

When you say 105k, is that just tuition/fees or are you also including rent and food?

Just looked it up in the adea book. Midwestern coa 105
Lecom coa 81

So lecom saves 100k or so over 4 yrs.

This includes everything.

I was in the exact same boat, and I chose Midwestern. It costs a little more, but it seemed like they had their stuff more together. The campus had a lot amenities (recreation / fitness facilities, on-campus apartments). It also seemed like the students were genuinely comfortable around the faculty and vice-versa, while I didn't get to see any student / faculty interaction at LECOM.

I was wondering about the gym. Does midwestern have a nice weight room? This is purely out of curiosity though. No matter how nice the gym is, it wouldnt be worth 100k.

The tech at midwestern was crazy sweet. That and the faculty/facility might be worth 100k over lecom. Thoughts?

The gym was small, mostly machines and a few free weights. There is a gym for basketball, classes with yoga, Zumba, etc. Your apartment complex might have a better gym setup, or you could just pay $20/month for a 24 hour fitnesss

It depends what you mean by "worth". If worth means the 4 years where you are happier with the program and being a dental student then only you can decide because only you can quantify your happiness with money.

But if you mean in terms of your career earnings or earning potential. No going to midwestern will not give you a greater income potential because the equiptment is newer or the faculty are nicer. Remember 100k becomes over 120k by the time you graduate and easily 170k after you pay it back. 170k is your take home income for 2 years as a dentist, would you like to work for no income for 2 years for going to midwestern?

Pick the school you believe suits you better - either is a great option! The way I see it, you're going to end up with a successful career regardless of which school you attend. I wouldn't let cost of attendance be a huge factor since you will pay your loans off eventually, and luckily doing something you love everyday.

But it IS a huge factor. It's not the amount you owe that will kill you. It's the interest.
