LECOM
Pros
Cons
UNC COM
Pros
Cons
Pros
- More established
- Rotation sites are good and in the Pittsburgh area (?)
- Cheap/affordable tuition
- Great match rates and board pass rates
- I think I want to end up in the Northeast during residency/practicing as a physician
Cons
- PBL learning and graded curriculum, very much seems like a teach completely yourself type of situation, don’t know if this learning style is completely for me
- Small/old facilities, most of the school is in the basement of a building on Seton Hill University campus
- Virtual anatomy lab
- The students seemed very stressed and the vibe seemed to be that the faculty was mostly removed from the preclinical curriculum and I just didn’t get great energy from accepted students day
- Most of the emphasis from the faculty and administration seems to be on professionalism and less on being a patient centered physician
UNC COM
Pros
- Honors/Pass/Fail curriculum
- Curriculum is a culmination of lecture, activity based learning, and PBL/Group learning and seems very innovative
- Brand new facilities, really amazing campus, and I really love Colorado as a state
- The dean and faculty were incredible, they were all so lovely, passionate and really gave me a good impression and they seemed very supportive
- Got a really wonderful impression/vibe at accepted students day
- Love the emphasis on training compassionate, patient-centered doctors and emphasis on social determinant conscious/whole person care
Cons
- New school, inaugural class
- More expensive tuition than LECOM
- They have established rotation sites all within Northern Colorado, but obviously don’t know much about them because the school is new
- Not 100% sure I would want to practice in Colorado long term, am worried it will be harder to match into residency given its a new school
