So I interviewed at LECOM-Erie back at the end of January and still have goten no response. I've called their admissions office and all they say is that no decision has been made yet. At the interview I was told that I would get a response within 3-4 weeks. Does anyone know any reasons as to why it is taking them so long to make a decision. I am just getting worried because they must be getting pretty close to running out of seats and LECOM is my top choice. Has anyone had this happen to them before or know what I should do?

My guess would be you're waitlisted, but that's just a guess.

Did you confirm that you were complete? Wasn't LECOM the school that everyone complains about not getting a confirmation when/if you are complete?

Call once a week and keep asking. LECOM can take a while to hear from. I got a deferral, and although it has been confirmed over the phone, I still haven't gotten a written confirmation.

The adcom meets on Wednesdays and the letter are also mailed out on Wednesdays (at least the acceptances).

Good luck!

No, it wasn't LECOM. The thread was called "PCOM needs to work on their customer service." In that thread quite a few people commented very positively about LECOM, saying that they were the only school to mail out status reports to them.

except Jezzeliein..it took her like 4 months to get a response...(LECOM-erie)

Yes, but she was waitlisted. They are quicker with notification of acceptances.

How can I pass up an LECOM thread! Yup, it was a long wait but they actually told me over the phone, I think by accident. I actually didn't get the real letter till about 5 months after my interview. Yea... they musta screwed up somewhere... 😳

I got my acceptance after 8 weeks of waiting, so hang in there.

Same here, interviewed on November 4th, accepted on Christmas Eve. They take forever.

My acceptance was pretty quick, interviewed 10/17 found out like 11/8.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I called them again today (april 11) and they said that a decision had been made and sent out but they wouldn't tell me what it is was. I don't know why they couldn't just tell me over the phone like most schools I have talked to. Do you guys think this a good or bad sign? Also does anyone know if LECOM has any seats left for next year. Thanks.

I have never heard of a school that can tell you a decision over the phone. In fact, I think it is illegal. Imagine the lawsuit if someone heard over the phone they were accepted and received a rejection letter in the mail and the secreatry had made a mistake over the phone.

I guess I meant that I have gotten plenty of rejection notices over the phone before I actually recieved the letter.

Same thing happened to me! I called today and they told me a decision has been made and they couldn't tell me. I asked when the letter was sent out and they said April 1 and she even said "hmmm I'm suprised you haven't gotten it yet." I only live in NY so it shouldn't take 2 weeks to get here, and I have a deposit due to a backup Caribbean school on Monday. I'm going home today for the holiday so I don't know what to do.

I am really worried too. My luck has not been really good. This is the only school that interviewed me (I applied kinda late), and I don't want to have to take my MCATs again. I interviewed in late March and it's been almost 3 weeks now.

I am scared to call the school because they could turn my acceptance/waitlist into a flat out rejection.

The waiting really sux.

Did you get accepted/waitlisted or are you still waiting to hear? They will not do anything for me until Monday. Apparently they couldn't tell me anything over the phone yesterday but they can on Monday....

Finally got a letter from them on April 13 and ended up being waitlisted. All that after I interviewed on January 30 and was told by Dr. Wise that I would definately get a decision within 3-4 weeks. The funny thing is that I really liked LECOM because of how professional the whole school seemed to be when I was there. Too bad the admissions department is absolutely pathetic.

If you don't mind, what were your stats? At least you got waitlisted, you may have a chance of getting off

I am still waiting to hear. I am really scared. I have been out of school for over a year. And I found out that one of my LORs was not good. My graduate supervisor was an a--hole.

You know, I am always surprised when someone gets a bad LOR. I mean, you are asking someone for a letter of recommendation!! The title itself implies "good things are within!" They should just say "no" if they aren't going to actually recommend you.

The word recommendation does not in of itself imply a favorable (to the applicant) letter. The LOR is a letter to recommend some sort of action. For instance I recommend John Doe be NOT admitted for such and such reasons. Alternatively, I recommend Jane to be admitted to the program because of such and such.

It's all semantics - but if anyone cares - the keyword is positive. That is why when asking profs for LOR's you should ask whether they'll write you a positive LOR. Now if the "askee" hesitates, the "asker" should thank the prof for their time and walk away.

Well, if I have to reapply, I won't use that guy's recommendation letter :meanie: .

Still waiting... :scared:

I am especialy worried since i may have to commit to a job soon and then my hands will be tied. Waiting really sucks and I hate that these admissions people take their own sweet time to say yes, no, or maybe.

The verdict is in...alternate list! Damn, I still have to wait.

Has anyone gotten off the waitlist yet? Ahhhh, a week till May 15th! I am sick of waiting! 🙁

I'm with you Jezz, even more. This is the only med school that interviewed me this year, and I think going to med school is a better option than returning to grad school where you worry about whether or not you'll be enrolled the next day or if your prof will lose his funding, or your prof turns out to be an a--hole etc..

The dropout/flunkout rate is higher in grad school than in medical school.

I got a call from the admin's office today! They officially moved me off of the waitlist and onto the acceptance files! I'm sure they'll be calling others shortly. OH MY GOD IM GOING TO MED SCHOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

LECOM never sent you an interview invitation but you're accepted? 😕

How did you get accepted without an interview??

No, I'm serious, I was put on the alternate list without any interview in February, then got accepted.

If that's true then it could've been placed onto the alternate list by mistake. I could see that happen once in a while.

That account was created yesterday and has 3 total posts now. It's all a joke by a regular user. You don't get in without an interview-- not even by mistake. Like I said...TROLL!

Quick question about LECOM. They have that 3.3 min gpa req., right? But what if you have a gpa around 3.25 and get a 30+ MCAT? Is it worth it to apply, or will the app be thrown out becuase it doesnt meet that min req.?

Taken directly from LECOM's website:
"In addition to the above requirements, it is recommended that the applicant have an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0, and a minimum 2.7 science grade point average. Successful candidates typically have both science and overall grade point averages of 3.2 or above."

I'm not sure what you're asking but your GPA is above their recommended minimum. They will NOT throw out your application. You have a good chance of being accepted. :luck:

Not quite right-- they say "successful" applicants generally have a 3.2 or above. The applicant is "recommended" to have a 3.0 overall and minimum 2.7 science GPA. They also have a requirement of 6 hours of behavioural sciences (but you usualyy get that from your gen ed requirements anyway) and you MUST have a DO letter. That is the same at both campuses.

That is weird because I ordered that osteopathic msar equivalent, and it says a 3.3 min is required.
