Erie

graduated largest DO class: 203
started out with 224 students
203/224=90.6%

23 students failed for reasons:
- didn't pass the COMLEX I the 2nd time so got held back a year
- some dropped out for family/personal reasons
- some failed out for academic reasons
- a couple could have fail COMLEX II and couldn't graduate on time; they could have passed the COMLEX I the first time as well

Pass rate based on those numbers, with students passing the COMLEX I the first and second time attempts is roughly 90.1%. Say of those 203 only 20 didn't pass the COMLEX I the first attempt that would lead to the first time pass rate of COMLEX I to be around 81.7%. Because it's hard to tell how many students didn't pass COMLEX II thus couldn't graduate on time so it's hard to figure out the exact numbers. But I assume it could be around 81.7%+/-5%.

Since this is the biggest class that LECOM-Erie has graduated I would assume the first time pass rate is somewhere on the lower end of my prediction.

I'm not a CPA nor am I great with numbers so... 🙂 Just thought I'd throw this out for those wanting to know and looking for a discussion.

Know anything about the one in Bradenton? I was thinking of going there because I would like to stay in Florida close to home (Tampa) for personal reasons. I don't know about the problem based learning though. Anybody have any pros or cons they would be willing to share?

First, the official number reported to AACOM for that class was 223 students. All that aside, the attrition rate for the average DO school is close to 11%, so LECOM is still better off than the average. As for your prediction of pass rates, there's no way you can make assumptions like that.

On average, only about 2.5% of DO students are dismissed for academic failure per year, with another 0.3% who withdraw on their own due to poor performance. However, 4.5% leave for "personal reasons." I don't see how you can assume that LECOM would be that different from the average school, but you would have to do that to come up with your figures. You must also remember that, on average, a full 5.5% of that approximate 10% attrition rate is for leaves of absence, not withdrawal or dismissal. I personally know one student who started at Bradenton last year, but got sick and couldn't finish. She'll be part of that 10% figure. I know another who is spending a year on her MPH degree. She'll be part of that figure as well. I know of someone who took a leave of absence at another school to have a baby. Guess what?...another part of that total. They'll all finish at least a year behind. Based on that, you can't make assumptions like you did. I'm not sure why you would even try.

Mod please close, FutureDocDO has a similar thread open in the osteopathic form.

Similar doesn't mean the same. Closing for duplicate threads makes sense but this post spins off of the other one. There are a gazillon posts on here that resemble the same posts created around the same time every year. For example, what are my chances, how do you do this and that in aacomas, etc... 🙄 Albeit, they're posted by different people. Wait 'til you're a moderator.

BTW, I was just thinking about it and thought I'd post it. It wasn't meant to attack LECOM-Erie.
