does LECOM have a written portion during their interview? whats the overall feel for the interview? Open/Closed file? how many questions do they ask? thanks!

I am pretty sure it is closed file. No written part. It is a group interview 6 predents and 2 interviewers. Just be sure to talk and be polite.

The overall feel of the interview is relaxed but of course you will be very nervous through out the day.

I think LECOM will impress you. They are doing things "different" in the clinics and course work that I think other schools will end up incorporating to some extent.

It was closed file and 6 predents with two interviewers. During the interview they just asked pretty basic questions and we went around and gave our own answers. They encouraged an actual group discussion so sometimes we responded to each other's answers. The interviewers have ranking sheets with them and they evaluate you as you talk. They were pretty nice and actually stopped the interview at one point to explain to us that we were also interviewing them and not to be nervous. No writing portion during interview.

Hope this helped. I went there last week so if you have any more questions about the day I would be happy to help out.

What does closed file mean

The interviewer doesn't have your file in front of them. No knowledge of you besides knowing your name. Open file is that they read your file beforehand, correct me if I'm wrong.
In some schools, open-file means that they can dissect you during the interview since they have your file in front of them.

Yes, open file is when they have complete access to your application before and after the interview.

Open is okay unless you have some sketchy business in there. I'm very non-sketchy (see avatar) so they just brought up some random things to chat about...more out of interest than an interrogation. One had my PS in front of him with notes and highlights and guided a lot of the interview off stuff that was in there. Wait...my DAT scores are sketchy. That wasn't a big deal though. None of this "your GPA and DAT don't match" stuff people call a 'huge red flag' around here. Just read over your app before your interview so you remember what stuff you put (lied about) on there.

One benefit to not having an open file is that you have a little more control over the interview. It's blank slate and they know nothing about you. You can bring up stuff you want to highlight instead of them knowing everything about you already. You feel less repetitive also. If they have your file and ask you 'why dentistry?', you'll feel silly just reciting your PS when they've likely read it.

Done rambling. Need to study.
