lecture comparison

what about twice a month?

Yaah, why don't you merge this guys two threads. He is just asking about conference frequency.

8 hours in 4 months seems a little low unless you are excluding everything that is not a formal lecture.
(we had a bit of a disagreement of what is intended by didactic, not that long ago)

I think of any lecture/conference that is designed to impart knowledge to residents as 'didactic', which includes unknowns cases, interesting case reviews, etc..
Some working conferences don't really count (most tumor boards for example)

8 hours in 4 months is really light, that is under 30 min a week. Especially when you combine it with Unknowns only 2 a month.

Yeah, good idea.

8 hours of didactic over four months is basically one conference every two weeks. We have 4-5 surg path + heme + cyto hour long conferences every week (except during the summer).

what do you think of total 8 hours of didactic in all surgpath specialties+cyto+heme in about 4 months?

Sounds like heaven. If I so desired, I could easily spend 15+ hours a week in conference.

short hours at the expense of one's training isn't a good thing. most programs seem to offer lots of didactics, so if a program didn't i would wonder if that means the faculty aren't interested in taking the time to teach residents.

Nice. Do your residents learn anything? Go troll in preallo. They'll like you over there.
