Good Day,

First of all - I apologize if I posted this in the wrong forum!!!! Please direct me to the right place.

I am a NEW graduate. I just graduated from Pharmacy School in the US. I am a Canadian student, eligible to work in the US and I got my PharmD from the US (commuting). The point is, I am trying to find a job outside the state I got my education in (I do have many reasons... irrelevant to go through - but for sure there are no hospital jobs within 4 hours of where I live). What I really really really want is a HOSPITAL staff position and NOT a retail position (ex: CVS, Target, Meijir ETC).

Problem is - I am unaware of the hospital in each state and I am sure each state has PLENTY of hospitals. Frankly, I have also never been out of my province and beyond the my college campus. So boiling it down to a certain city, in a certain state in the US and looking for hospitals there does not seem practical. This is especially the case since I am Canadian and I do not even know where to begin.

So I am hoping to find a job hunter help me out - someone who could recommend a state/city based on his/her experience and the certain aspects I am looking for. I already e-mailed 4 of them that I found on google and it has been over a weak with my response.

So here is the thing - is anyone here aware of actual legit job hunters? Am I going on about this the wrong way? Any sites you recommend?

What worries me is that I am JUST a new graduate and applying to random out-of-state hospital may not be the most effective way of going on about this.

I am open to any feedback/advice no matter how cruel it is and thanks!

If you truly don't care where you move to, start looking in rural areas. Take out a map of the US, find smaller towns in the very middle of the country, and start looking for hospitals there. Small, rural hospitals won't care that you don't have a residency. Since hardly anyone wants to move to western Nebraska (for example), there's less competition for jobs and they might actually have openings. How do you find these hospitals? Take out a map of the US, look for smaller towns, then Google to see where the hospitals are. Also, look for pharmacy schools and get as far away from them as you can. More pharmacy schools means more competition.

Put your resume on Monster. Recruiters called me frequently about jobs in rural areas after I put my resume up there. I couldn't take the jobs (I can't move due to a family situation), but if I had been able to relocate, I would've been in great shape.

Do not e-mail recruiters directly. In this economy they get more inquiries than they can handle, and I am sorry to say that your e-mails have already been lost. Going to the hospital website to look for openings is actually your best bet.

Good luck.

I know nuclear operators getting out of the Navy are constantly hounded by Orion International and Lucas Group (head-hunters). I'm only familiar with the ex-military aspect (finding jobs for people of all walks getting out of the military), but you might see if they would do the same for a recent pharmacy grad.

One thing I was warned about: make sure there are no hidden fees attached (like 5% of your first year income).
