I've been fortunate enough to have been accepted to a US MD school, and I am due to start in a few months.

I was wondering, would wanting to get engaged/married to someone who has academic commitments in another city (for one more year) be allowed as reason to defer from med school for a year? Obviously this would depend on the school, but was looking to get a feel for people's initial reactions. Thanks.

I highly doubt it, but like you said, depends on the school. You probably knew that your SO had a commitment for another year, and you could have applied this current cycle for admission in 2014. Usually schools restrict deferral to emergencies or other unplanned things that come up, but I know some schools are more accepting of deferral reasons than others.

Totally depends on your school. Mine is pretty gung ho about letting people defer, but I think they're in the minority.
