Length for a recommendatin letter?

Althought I've never read ones that my professors have written for me. My thesis advisor told me he wrote one for me that was nearly three pages, single spaced. Another one that I got was a page and a quarter or so single spaced. Hope that was helpful.

My two professors both wrote me letters that were half a page each. I saw it when they sent it in. My PI wrote me a one page letter. The attending physician at the clinic I volunteered at wrote me a two page letter. So it varies. I think one page is a good length.

Do you have one of those deals where they tell you to write it and they'll read it over, edit and then sign it?

it varies a lot, but all 5 of mine were between a page and 1.5 pages, if that helps any. i agree with the above posters, a page is probably good.
