Jag emergency med is 3 years per the site http//nrmp.aamc.org/nrmp National Resident Matching Program web site.
The time chart for all residencies is same as above adding /aboutres/index.htm

Most emergency medicine residencies are 3 years long ("1-3"), however, there are some programs that are 4 years long ("1-4") and others that require a transitional year and then 3 years of emergency medicine ("2-4"). For detailed information on all residency programs in emergency medicine, check out the following website:

I have a question relating to this topic:

I'm interested in sports medicine, and from what I've seen, sports med is a 1 year subspecialty that can be done after completing internal med, family pract, emergency med, orthopedic surgery, or even pediatrics. My question is, what is the difference which specialty you go through before going into sports medicine ? obviously going through ortho would yield a higher salary (longer residency and more competitiveness), but what about the other 4 different specialties, primary care and emergency med ? If the ultimate goal is sports med, what difference in future job tasks and career descriptions will there be depending on which specialty you go into before sports med ?

Thanks for your all help!
