Length of Secondary Essays???? Really Really Short?

Does 1000 characters for a secondary essay seem ridiculously short to anybody? Does that include spaces?

Yes, that includes spaces. It is quite short, but it's not too difficult to get a good, meaty paragraph in there. Just write as much as you need to get your point across, then cut out the least important stuff.

Penn State had 50 word responses (I'm not calling them essays, lol).

I find it more rewarding when I am bound to a certain character limit. I write what I need to write, as oppose to worrying about being eloquent. Maybe it's just me, but I enjoy short essays because it gives the admin a quick snapshot of who you are and if they are interested, you can talk up on what you wrote when you interview as oppose to, "Yups, that all I got to say admin. It's in the apps." My 2C.
