Just curious, what is the average time they give you to come to a decision? Some schools with rolling admissions will be allowing applications as early as Aug. 1, but the institutions with deadlines are not even looking at application until Jan/Feb! What happens if a deadline school is your first pick? I know it's always to the persons' advantage to apply early for rolling admissions, but what about in this case?

Are you asking the right question in light of what it is you really want to know?

Most bite the bullet ... and the checkbook ... and pay their deposit @ the alternate choice, rolling admit institution as they wait on their preferred. Painful as that is, it's the proverbial drop in the bucket.

Ok, maybe not.. lol but what is the amount of time they give you to **** or get off the pot? Or average amount of time... anyone have experience?

In my experience, the rolling admissions schools gave me 2-4 weeks from the date of the acceptance letter to send in a deposit or decline admission. Deposits were anywhere between $200 and $500 (again, that is just in my experience-- I only applied to 3 rolling admission schools).

USC gave me about a month, they wanted to know by early April for a June start. They called me ON the day my decision was due to confirm I wasn't going. SJSU was more informal, they didn't give me a deadline they just asked me to please inform them ASAP if I wasn't attending their program. I waited 2 weeks before I told them, but I'm sure I could have waited longer and I didn't even have to put a deposit down.
