SDN,

What would be considered low tier (bottom 20) medical schools? Is there any info on the web that lists school in descending order of GPA/MCAT scores?

Thanks.

Hey my man, PM me back with a few of your stats, I am thinking by the look of your posts that we have some similarties and I have recently been excepted into five medical schools. I am new to SDN so I don't know how to check my PMs so if make sure you also hit me at [email protected]. Also let me know in that Howard post that you got this message.

To check your PM's, go to scroll to the top of the screen. Click on "User CP". From there, you are in your control panel and can access and send PM's.

You know, at some point in all my research I did find a list in decending order of GPA and MCAT for all US Allo and Ortho schools. However, I cannot think of where for the life of me. But, how I found it was just by searching on Yahoo for medical schools, accepted GPA
or something like that
You can also pick up the ever famous MSAR and deduce the same list for yourself.
Best of luck and don't just limit yourself to safer lower teir schools. I have some GPA issues and was nervous about applying anywhere with an average GPA over 3.4 or 3.5, but currently am waitlisted (only 14 more people to go before I am in 🙂 ) somewhere with an average GPA of 3.6 (which is average for a huge bulk of medical schools). You just never know. Something about your application may make you stand out.

Thx lilmacstew!

That was EXACTLY the link that I was looking for!

😛

Not that the links above aren't helpful, but I would be careful because the stats listed on those pages are several years old (at least 3 years old, maybe more). I notice that several schools have VERY different stats now (Mt. Sinai, for example). I would definitely look at a copy of the MSAR. Good luck in the app process! 🙂

Be sure to apply to a wide range of schools. My GPA was below average for almost all schools (3.2) and I had a 32 on the MCAT, and did not get interviews from most of the schools that listed these as their average stats. However, I did get interviews at schools with higher averages that must have overlooked the GPA and focused more on my MCAT and ECs. So, be sure to apply to some schools that you would really like to go to that you might not believe you could get into. You might be surprised.😱

these lists are from class of 1995 or earlier (at least, the website was last modified in 1996). Pretty useless if you ask me. USNEWS will tell you most of what you need to know, MSAR will tell the rest
