Hey everyone,

I am finishing up my last semester of undergrad and after being accepted into med school I am finding it extra hard to finish my work. Of course, I have completed all my coursework for graduation except for one class. Would it be terrible to drop everything but the class I need for graduation? Is it necessary to have extra coursework this last semester that is really just busy work before med school? What is everyone's take on this issue? I mean really, I would just like to take those 3 hours and that's it? Anyone else taking less than 12 hours? Any one know if this is okay to do?

I'm in the same boat but remember that if you want to keep insurance and full-time student status (for financial aid later on) you must keep 12 credits.

Tough it out 😀

I'm in the same club guys. Only needed a design class to graduate, but decided to also take anatomy and ballroom dancing. I am taking Anatomy with the hope that it may give me a heads-up for next fall and ballroom dancing to meet people.
fytnowl05, as long as you graduate, I don't think it will be all that bad if you drop your extra classes . As a matter I have been debating whether or not to stay in anatomy. I kind of just want to enjoy my last semester. 😀

DROP your classes and slack off while you have the chance. The next 4 yrs are going to be ridiculous. Not to mention that the Future / Current coursework section on your AMCAS Application is unverified by AMCAS simply for the fact that many people change courses as time goes on. As long as there is nothing in your Acceptance letter that says you have to be a full time student, why do it? Most letters state you must finish your current course of study in a satisfactory manner, i.e. no C's. Just to be sure call the school and ask them their policy on dropping classes but I think you are fine. I am finishing my MSPH and once I got my letter I dropped all the classes I did not need for graduation. If they say anything I will tell them I don't want to pay for unnecessary classes, it costs a lot of money, what med-school would argue with that ??

I was in a similar situation last year except I hadn't started applying yet. I just kept the full course load and only took the classes I needed (or could easily get an A in) for letter grades and did the others pass/fail. I'd imagine that with an acceptance, you should be fine. Isn't it comparable to graduating early?

I don't think that would be a problem, as long as you're doing something useful with the rest of your time. (Working, research, etc.) I mean, people who work full-time while taking pre-reqs often have only one or two classes per semester.

As someone else mentioned, you'd want to check and make sure that not being a full-time student won't negatively impact financial aid.
