I have a general question for those of you out there who may be doing CT fellowships. I know that most people would say that places like Texas Heart, Emory, and the Harvard hospitals are some of the best places to train but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about programs that have a good reputation but maybe are less well know (For those of us who may not be genius' but are hard workers🙂 )

Toronto. Would be top of my list were I to do a cardiac fellowship. Fills early. Easily in the same league as Texas Heart, Harvard, Emory, Cleveland Clinic.

Penn State has an interesting one. 30% attending in ORs for salary, 70% fellow. 1 day per week echo. Experience with both adult and peds. Don't know how good their echo is, but I like the setup.

Another consideration is how you are treated. I'd rather do fewer cases and be in a program whose goal was to teach me than be a cheap cog in the machine and crank out 300+ pumps in a year. But that's me.

I would agree that I would prefer to goto a program who's goal was teaching rather than another glorified year of residency. I don't know much about Penn State. I would definitely like to know more about the smaller programs. Thanks for the input.

I think Canada is much less of a problem than an EU country. If you're interested, give them a call. They fill about 18 months in advance, so if you're looking for a July 2011 position, now is a good time to call. There are several programs in the Toronto area. When I said Toronto, I meant Toronto General Hospital where Tirone David operates.
