I have a question. I've interviewed at a school where the admissions people said at the end of the day "Please keep us informed of your interest every now and then. We keep track of the number of times applicants contacts the school."

So basically how do you do this? Do I just call up the admissions office every two weeks and be like "Hi! My name is blah blah and I just want you to know I'm still very interested." I figured I can think of some stupid questions for them to answer, but they prolly wouldn't ask for my name. Anyways, any suggestions would be great!

I've seen a couple premedical websites recommending that you write a letter every 4-6 weeks reaffirming your interest and updating them on any notable activities or accomplishments.

I think the obsessive/compulsive/deranged phone calls don't come into play until later in the waitlist game....

At least you know for sure that sending letters of interest won't be a waste of your time. There was a recent thread RE letters of interest. Would you mind telling us which school? Thanks.

I think the other thread regarding "letters of interest" is discussing pre-interview contact. I think it's univerally agreed that a moderate amount of post-interview letter writing is acceptable and encouraged at most schools.

I know, specifically, Boston University requests that you go home, think about your experiences, and, if you feel inspired, to please write a letter to them if you continue to be strongly interested in their medical school. By the time you've been interviewed, you're essentially in the select pool of candidates the school is actively considering/recruiting for their medical school, and all things being approximately equal, they're more inclined to accept those who have expressed particular interest in their school.

Just don't go overboard; admissions secretaries are people, too. 😉

I don't think the phone calls are worth it unless you're speaking to someone on the adcom. Otherwise it will likely not really be noted anywhere that you called. Send a letter to the adcom or a note to your interviewer. All that stuff will go in your file, where they can see the amount of postage you spent on them. Emails work also I think. I sent 5 or 6 emails to schools over break to say I was still interested, and ended up with two more interviews, who knows if that's why, but it didn't hurt!
