I asked two different people what "non-participant" and "not-matched" meant and I couldn't really get a straight answer. One person explained that "non-participant" meant that these students did not participate in the regular match because they were either military or they went into the fellowship. This answer doesn't quite make sense because they listed military in its own category and gave the number of people that did military residency. I again asked what "not matched" meant and I was told that these people did not match into a residency and the subject was quickly changed.
If anyone knows what this means it would be nice to clear it up because it's a little concerning, especially with the way they handled my questions about it.

Not participated = didn't enter the aoa or acgme match.
Not matched = failed attempt to get a residency spot.

That's what I thought. Is this typical of medical schools to have this many people have problems getting residencies?
Idk and (not trying to be rude) I don't care because I'm one of the people on SDN who believes boards and clinicals get you matched, and school affiliation gets you matched to specific places.
6% does seem high though.

No I totally agree with you. I feel the same way about boards and clinicals getting you residencies. But I was just really confused about this because it's the first time I had seen something like this out of all the interviews and research I have done. Plus, the way they handled my questions about it kind of raised a red flag for me. I think it's a valid question. If this is the only school with this problem then I find it to be a serious issue. Either that or Nova is the only school that is honest about their students not matching. lol

what did you exactly ask? my doctor Who is a do told me today that there are always several people that drop out within the first year at large do school and thst I should find out before accepting. Maybe those that didn't get a residency include those people that dropped out?

Western told us that last year, only one person failed to match and the faculty representative explained this case. It had to do with the person's attitude in interviews.

Yeah one or two people who don't match because of a personality issue is understandable. I wonder what the mystery is behind 14 Nova students not matching. That just seems like a lot.
