So apparently bio 1 is our weedout class (didnt know, didnt know).

Everyone whos taken my teacher has either gotten a D the first time followed by a B, or barely scraped by.

This is why you look up professors before you take your class guys....dont eff it up like me.

this has been your random sunday complaint thanks for playin.

Every premed class is a weed out class...

oh the days....the "intro" classes were always the hardest for sure!

Biochem was our "weedout" class.

4 teachers each teaching about their specific subject in Biochemistry.. the final was brutal over 12 pages double sided.. I cry when I think about it...lol

Bio 1 was my favorite course, it introduced me to the molecular side of bio that i didnt know before.

Now Biochem was TOUGH!

btw

What up Dennis, you gunna attend Western?

man intro bio was easy. figured out the prof's tricky way of asking questions and took care of business.

but yeah, biochem was WAAAAY harder. thats the true test of a predent.

I think there should be ANOTHER course before bio 1 to kinda EASE the students into the intensity of the course. I really was overwhelmed by the volume of info and the intense pace of that course when I was a freshman in college. And I failed that course lol

I keep waiting for those weed-out courses to be over with, but every quarter there is another professor seeking to make things difficult heh. I thought Biochem would be the end of it, and now I'm in immunobiology and it is even worse.

I did alot worse in my lower level "weed out" classes than in the upper division science classes.

I think it is a combination of things: I learned how to develop better study habits and now I am smarter than I was when I took bio 101.

OP I wouldn't waste time retaking classes unless you fail them

I couldn't disagree with you more. It really depends on the school you go to. Some schools actually teach the students and don't ask stupid questions just to trip up those who cannot memorize every stinking detail including the second sentence of a picture caption of a book. I had great experiences in my pre-med courses.

Ok IN MY SCHOOL, every premed class is a weed out class 👍. My school did ask those stupid questions.. unfortunately..

what do you guys consider weed out classes? I don't think any school and any prof is trying to fail any student, their goal is to educate and while doing that, they have to uphold a certain standard/quota right? at my school, almost every class has a C+ average(after about 10-30% of the students drop from the course) in 1st and 2nd year. upper year classes have C+/B- and very few have B or higher averages.

Hey Tommy, I got into Loma Linda, and that school has always been my dream school so I am definitely going to go there. It was hard though because Western has a lot of potential and I feel that after they graduate their first class many people will hold it has their first choice. Sadly, now, there are too many variables.

My "weed-out" classes did have decent averages (c+ I think?) but the sheer volume of work and students in the class made it really tough. You have to consider the fact that junior and seniors are taking those classes when you are freshman/sophomore and they might not be taking any other difficult courses when you have two or science courses. It does come down to beating the curve, but other people are highly motivated as well.

Biochem...for sure the weed out class at our school. I should have taken the 2 semester course instead of the 1 semester course. Even though they went into way more detail, I heard it was a lot easier....oh well it's in the past now. Our biochem prof picked his favorite students and they were kings and queens all semester and didn't even have to take the final! For everyone else, the class was very difficult. (<--Read I wasn't his pet)

I still didn't see as many tears in biochem as I did in ochem! A few people broke down in lab...:/

Haha reflecting on all of it now sure brings back some painful memories!
